She remained silent, tracing cracks in the ceiling like ancient constellations and pressing her fingers against the severe curve of the bone beneath her wrist, skin pulled taut against brittle bone. There were days when she couldn't remember the last time they fed her, yet when the bowl did clatter into the cell it was never a call for celebration. She ate as a ceremony for her survival, but it was nothing nothing more. In the numb space between broken shadows there were sometimes whimpers or whispers or screams, the only indication that she had any kind of companionship in her suffering. They wailed about disproportionate punishments and things they didn't deserve. Her own noiselessness was a bitter acceptance, dead eyes gazing into the abyss without blame.

It may have been a nightmare, but it was hers.

She guided her way through the empty stretch of time by remembering golden eyes and a smile that felt like home. Seconds slurred into minutes, hours, days, until there was no sense of an end to it. Finally, though, a gravelly voice wormed its way through the infinite silence. "Whitestone. You're coming with us."

She knew what came next. When they'd first dragged her to this hell, it had been the thing she feared the most. Now, though, it marked the end to the immersion in death and rotten souls. Standing up was shaky, but once she was on her feet she steadied. Her chin lifted slightly and she followed the Keeper without protest to the familiar white room. They left her alone, but she'd expected that. There was a fire - she'd expected that, too.

And when the door opened and a familiar figure walked in, her lips twitched into a dead smile. It was a nightmare. A twisted, ugly, cruel nightmare. Still, her chin dipped in acknowledgement, as if greeting an old friend. "Hello, Cassius."

It was a nightmare.

It was hers.

Clayburn, Cassius

His brown eyes devoured the name on the paper. Luna Whitestone. His nose was filled with the scent of burning flesh and he savored the memory. Just Whitestone this time. He could have a lot more fun with her alone.

Cassius quickly yanked the file from the pile and scratched out the Peacekeeper assigned to her interrogation. Reinhardt was too busy with his band of teenagers to take any more responsibility on anyway. No, Luna was all his.

The man went to his quarters and changed into his cleanest uniform. He wanted to be dazzling white when he walked in. Cassius had not forgotten the importance of aesthetic in these things. With a handful of gel, he slicked back his hair and checked himself in the mirror. He clipped his baton to his belt and buttoned his jacket into place.

As he walked down the hallway tot he interrogation rooms where he knew she'd be waiting a young keeper gave him a once over and peeped out "Hot date tonight, Clayburn?"

"You could say that," he smirked, turning down the hallway to where she was waiting for him.

Cassius stepped into the side room where the two way mirror was displayed on the wall like a window. He got his first glimpse of her. Small, tired, underfed and absolutely perfect. A fire was already burning in the room as he requested. Two Peacekeepers stood with clipboards recording the scene. Cassius gave them a look. They glanced at each other before gathering their things and leaving.

He didn't want anyone peeping today.

He pulled out his key ring and locked the control room behind him. Then he finally stepped to the large metal door, the only thing separating him from his fun. He placed his hand on the doorknob and took a deep breath.

Savor the special things in life. He'd read it in a book once, and he intended to follow its directions.

He entered. She looked up and smiled at him. A smile with nothing behind it.

"Hello, Cassius."

"Luna," he nodded. The smoke from the fire making him light headed in the best way possible. "I have missed you."

He knelt down in front of her, pressing his fingers under her chin so he could inspect her face.

"I wish I could say you look good, but unfortunately that is not the case," he said. His lips couldn't resist smiling. Her skin was cool on his fingers, but even the slightest contact of skin made his heart beat so hard he could feel it in his ears.

"I hope you're ready to have some fun today, my dear."
