Toxic rumours hang in the air, tendrils of thick smoke that choke and blind children who don't know any better. A victim of this, I've learnt that you can twist the smoke to your advantage, casting it out of your own eyes and into someone else's. A comforting thought, really, that your future isn't completely out of your hands.
Hurrying down city pavement, head up proudly because anything less wouldn't be proper. Power walking in heels is an art form, impressive to watch but painful to perform. I'm almost home though, where a hot shower and a tempting bed awaits. Career training is hard work, sweat in my hair and a cloth bag over my shoulder, but it's a very much needed stress reliever of cuts and bruises. Not to mention it's more time away from my my mother.
A sudden collision throws me off balance, distracted again, and stumbling I hear the fateful echoing snap of a stiletto heel. Frustration runs through me like a freight train because it had been such a good day. But there are another pair of shoes in my bag, though I use them for training only, which means they're not exactly street fashion worthy. Looking down in disgust and then slowly back up tp the guy who ran into me, ice in my gaze and fire in my voice.
"What the hell? Watch where you're going."
