Existence wanders by with every beat of the day, the same routes taken; every hour has a new assignment. I am the spectator to the greatest thing in the world – life. Every high ground I view it from, there is always something different to capture. The stem of my paintbrush follows every journey, nameless faces, and the characters of all the little scenes that decorate my home. Some too valuable to reach the surface of the market stalls; an easy living, I am probably one of the most fortunate people in the District.

A spectator of life, it was inevitable that one day I was going to witness something that would always linger over me. A slash of the blade on the victim’s neck and they were gone…Lips sealed, I managed to contain the scream but my camouflage was foiled.

”We can’t let you carry that tongue around or you’ll speak.”

Not only did they steal my speech but the comfort of my life, bound by one witnessed crime. Now I carry messages across the District for the Rasoio family, I am a messenger without his own voice.

Communication can never be foiled, not when I carry the paintbrush in my hand. Only one chain has me secured to that life, it can all still continue.

I was a witness to chaos and now I am an apart of it.
