He looked at the fire for a moment, realizing that the amount of heat that was coming off of it was rather cathartic. There were days where he would be a little too distracted, where the fire would consume the metal and make it too soft to work with. Today was one of those days, because he was thinking way too much about everything that was going on here in nine. The tributes had died, nothing seemed to get better, and Sag always felt like he was in a constant state of freefall.

It didn’t matter what he did, because at the end of the day, he would still find himself at the same place. At the same time. There was nothing that changed for Sag unless he got lucky and was able to find something to distract himself. The metal working was something that he was used to at this point, the rarity was when he had people watching him.

One of his cousins came out of the wood work, that being Pieces. Pieces was a gentle boy who Sag knew had a hard time fitting in around the district. Maybe district six would have been more of a fit for him, seeing as he was brilliant. But that was not a conversation that they could have. Everyone could be watching at any point while they were here.

”I’m well Pieces, just, have a lot on my mind.” Sag worked on his current design, which felt more like a scribble anyway. He wasn’t sure what he could do next. Maybe Pieces could help.

Sag took a deep breath, realizing that nothing was going to be the same for him as they neared the end of the games. The fall of nine had not been a surprise to anyone, but he wished that something would have changed. Anything. Petunia might have had a chance to make it all the way, but the boy from three wanted blood, and that was more than enough to overtake the poor girl who could not protect herself well enough.

And it broke Sag’s heart in two.

But this was not the time for him fret. No. It was the time for him to do something to honor the two that they lost.

And while he wanted so much for the people of nine, he knew that there was nothing that he could do. The only thing that he had any access too was his metal. Other than that, he was pretty much solo in his endeavors to end the sadness that was wrought in district nine.

But Pieces could at least be someone that he could talk to in this moment. Someone that could at least suss his thoughts out with him and make him feel like he was somewhat still a person.

”Just thinking about the two tributes who died. How much I wish I could do something for their families. The like of that. ” Sag looked at Pieces for a moment before looking back at his art. ”Did you know them Pieces?” He was quick to ask, not sure why, but he thought the mood was right.
