Here I am far from home, the light on the horizon calling me but it is not a command that I can follow.

Just one accident to twist an entire life around. One lost limb and now I am left on the shore as I wave them off each morning. Bound to a wooden stool, the only support I have, and I must carry it around as they carry me.

An accident caused by a power that I feed but there is no aid in treating my health from them. I can’t afford a prosthetic leg; all of my wages have been cut and now I must beg from the plates of my siblings.

One slip from the deck and I was overboard. Trapped between the pier and boat, an infected wound would have ended it all unless I sacrificed the limb. Now my siblings must sacrifice their time by being my carer. They each take turns, even my mother at her retirement age, we have gone full circle and now she is the one who helps me to my bed and keeps my stomach filled.

Seclusion to my room drove me up the walls and now the best I can do is sit on the shore with my flying rod. Some days go by without a catch and a miracle is beckoned and I am able to feed each of them for a week. It is what I do now, it keeps me happy while they are out on the boat. Me, my stool and rod can sit for hours as I wait for their return.

I am burdened to a new life, but I must force myself to adapt, there really is no other way.
