make the world a better place {ryan/blitz}

Sancha had found herself in the middle of the district for once, not because she had wanted to be, but because she had to be.

Her parents made it very obvious that their farm had been suffering a bit from all the pollution. They told Sancha to come out here in order to sell some of their produce to get some money in return. That money would be able to help them fix the fence that one of their livestock broke trying to escape a perfectly adequate surrounding.

Sancha sighed, thinking about Betsy and how she used to be able to see her everyday. Now she had no clue where the horse she loved so much had went off too, and unfortunately, she didnt have time to even try to track her down. Maybe one day when the moment was right and the universe was aligned, Sancha could give finding her another honest try, but for now, she had to focus on survival.

Her worse was a want, but her life was a need.

While she was walking, a basket of veggies in her hand, she was stopped by a man who seemed to be a little unkempt, but other than that, nice. An oddity in the rough and gruff interior that was district five. "What could be done better?" Sancha smirked. "Less pollution, its causing the animals that we do have left to go bonkers." Sancha spoke quickly, almost walking past the man because she was on a deadline. "Walk with me, I can elaborate if you wish." She said quickly, now past him, obviously if he wanted to know her gripes with the district, she was willing to offer, but he had keep up.

He had to follow.

The basket was starting to get heavy in her hand, but she knew that her destination wasnt too much further from her. She was always quick on her feet, a talent that she learned from other people on the farm, because if they were raising livestock, they could always be unpredictable. Whether it be having to carry a large animal back to its confinement, or running after one that wanted a taste of freedom, Sancha was ready for it.

Now the question was, was he?

Sancha didnt know, but the sound of footsteps hitting the dirt below made the answer clear, and Sancha couldnt help but smirk slightly.  It wasn't like her ideas were revolutionary, but anyone who wanted to hear them probably had ideas of their own.  Which meant that Sancha was probably dealing with a candidate for mayor or something.

Good, it was probably time for her to meet him anyway.

Sancha kept walking, impressed that he could keep up for only a moment before realizing that he seemed like he was a healthy individual who probably didnt leave near the oil rigs that had sprung up around the district.

Sancha did though.

"While pollution is something that cant be completely avoided, id love to see some reform in the times that they can be running. Nothing too crazy. Maybe a day where they are not allowed to run." Sancha said quickly, making a sharp right turn before walking at a normal pace again. "Would that be too hard for a future mayor to accommodate for?" Sancha asked as she was nearing her destination, hoping the man would also be able to keep up with her questions as fast as her walking.

Sancha had always been a runner in a sense. She did not stand for people who tricked her, like her family, but she also didnt have a choice. She did not know how to make it on her own here, and while she hated her father for what he had done to her, she realized that love, even though she rejected his a long time ago, meant sacrificing. However, Betsy was not something she was willing to sacrifice, and so instead she just waited patiently, hoping that something good would come.

And maybe this man was that good to come. Sancha didnt know, but he was keeping up. Her target was in sight, and she could feel a lightening on her conscious because of it. He answers her question quickly enough, but Sancha isnt sure if that is the answer. The basket smacks on the counter of the stall she was supposed to stop at, putting it front of the merchant and discreetly talking to him as she thinks about a rebuttle, probably something that he wouldnt be expecting from a young farm girl.

She takes the money and puts it in her pocket, grabbing two apples from the stall, in which she thanks the merchant who just smiles. She takes one and hands it to the man, a reward for actually keeping up with her. "But to do that wouldnt be easy y'know? Its one thing to shut down or offer more pay, but what happens if the people who run the rigs get greedy? What if they want to open up that day you want closed, and then demand the same pay because that is what they are getting every other day?" Sancha takes a bite of her apple, the basket now on the ground beside her as she watches the market grow lively. She gives him a light look, realizing that asking such questions might be better in a private setting, but Sancha wasnt good with privacy.

She was also just answering honestly, to give him something to think about.

She isnt sure how to take his answers at this point, but she does have to commend him at his ability to stay on his toes. Hes a man that can keep to his morals and values, and that is always something that Sancha can stand behind. She is sure that he isnt expecting a girl of only seventeen. But Sancha was well informed when it came to the oil rigs in the district.

She detested them.

But she knew that they brought in money, and there was pretty much nothing she could do in her own power to put a stop to them. So being able to grill a future leader was more then a privilege to her, and she had a feeling that he could at least be appreciative of the hard questions that she was asking. "Family is important, but so is making sure that there is always food on the table, Mr...." She paused for a moment, taking another bite of the apple in her hand, "... I didnt catch your name." She said honestly, a mistake on her end because it showed how uncivilized she could be in the moment.

"Greed always finds it way to creep back in. And compromise can only do so much before it crumbles to ash and dust. Its an inevitability of the district... no -- the world we live in. " Sancha looked down at the ground and then back up at him. "Remember, for some people, taking care of their family is their form of happiness, and sometimes its also their crutch." Sancha spoke, realizing that maybe she was getting a little too deep for her own good. "The last thing we need is a standstill between the governing body and the ones who run the facilites." She snapped another bite of the piece of fruit, "A standstill is always something that could happen as well."

Sancha had been standing on top of a soap box at this point, and she wasnt sure why. She wasnt interested in the politics of the district, just surviving day to day at this point. She did what she needed to do in order to get by, that was her reality. A reality that she hated, but she accepted the moment she realized it was all she knew. Her family made it hard for her to run from it, but she still held on to hope that one day she would find normalcy again.

This did make her reevaluate her choice to grill the man that was standing in front of her, but at the same time, he had an answer to everything. "Well Harvey, I think you bring up some good points, but we are also putting a lot of trust in the idea that people will hopefully apperciate the changes you are trying to make." Sancha's words were direct because she didnt waste time on trying to speak in in riddles. "I think it is important to pull at those strings Harvey, but what if they are attached to stones that cant be moved?" Sancha poses more and more questions as she tries to analyze each word that is mentioned. "What would you do in that situation?" Sancha took another bite of the apple in her hand. "How will you change the publics perception of the way things are ran now?"
