I’m everything you want me to be and nothing at the same time. I’m beautiful— clear skin and pouted lips, curly hair pulled back so you can always, always see my face— but I’m unattainable, unavailable to men. You can try to change that, but no amount of nagging will make me change my mind about you. That’s the thing, people always want things from me, and think they’ll get it no matter how many times I turn them down. It’s exhausting. That’s what happens when you’re strong. I work hard in the training center, keep up with the best careers, beat bruises into my skin. I deal with my family, overbearing parents, two sisters who refused to train so all the burden could fall on me. People see me and think I can handle anything they throw at me.
