Go to your rooms, Malcom Nox says. Give me three names. Indigo, Poppy, and Beryl are all safe, but there's still something in the pit of Whitney's stomach, something like anger, something like protectiveness.

She wants Coralie gone.

She knows, rationally, that it might not be a fair judgment, knows that she has always been too quick to settle into her worst emotions, that she's had to remind herself regularly all through her life to give people second and third chances—but Coralie. Every time Whitney listens to her speak, it makes her heart leap up through her throat, makes her want to say something terrible.

She knows what she should do.

And she knows what she wants to do.

It's not hard to guess what she'll choose.

Nox had said to go back to their rooms, but Amrin is noticeably absent from their shared space, and Whitney had seen Indigo walking in the opposite direction of the dormitory earlier. It only takes her half a moment before she decides who she'll talk to first, and she knows exactly the perfect excuse to strike up a conversation with Adam.

"Taupe!" she calls out as she knocks on his bedroom door. "Are you in there?"

She smiles, eyes bright, when he opens the door.

"Oh good, I thought you might be too busy celebrating Beryl's safety for us lowly folk."
