or at least

that's what i've heard.

i was meant to be a remarkable thing,
another legacy,
a chip off the old block.

but

i could never learn how to live quite
right.

when i was taught to do incisions,
proper ones,
my hands shook so bad
that i couldn't hold the scalpel properly.
my cuts were all wrong,
crooked and jagged,
a textbook failure,
and
i almost sliced my own thumb off.

i didn't like the look of blood on my hands anyways,
how it
stained
and rusted the plains of my palms.

mom and dad only ever had one rule:
if we weren't helping people,
we were hurting them.

and i never wanted to hurt anyone.

but
the only people we see in the clinic
are the ones that can afford it;
a rich man's paper cut,
a blind man's vision.

and i guess
i was only ever good at disappointment,

at letting people

down.

they put me in charge of inventory
instead and

i swiped a handful of painkillers,

handed them out to the guys,
the ones that come out of the factories,
all battered and
bruised,
raging red.

i thought it would help.

except
it didn't matter.

i'm
just a brother,
a son,
a fuck up,
a failure,

a lot of things now,

but never what they want.
