can you handle this [ems / blitz]

It’s just another day of working. People come and people go. Some have colds while others are much more serious. It’s all apart of the job, but right now it’s a lonely place, but it’s what she prefers. It gives her a chance to get caught up, to read through local newspapers exaggerating the circumstances of the world, yet right now those have little to do with her.

Eyes dart back and forth through the patient records making sure she has all of the names matched with those who came in when a guy slips through the door. For a moment, she’s completely caught off guard wondering where he came from, but it doesn’t matter cause he clearly needs help. He has a knife impaled within the walls of his abdomen.

She smiles sliding a chair over towards him before he passes out. It seems he doesn’t want anyone to see, and the least she can do is set up a block in front of the door giving this man the privacy he deserves. “Take a seat.” Her voice is calm and at ease while inside she’s yearning to know more, but the first question she has to ask - “Do you know the size of the blade? That is what will dictate the healing.”

He's on the brink of collapsing, and she knows she has to help him out before it's too late. "I'll be back in just a moment." She stands walking away from the man hoping he doesn't fall over in cardiac arrest from blood loss. She has some herbal medicine and teas and some morphling to help relieve the pain because she needs to get to work controlling the bleeding and replenishing what he's lost. Moving quickly, she grabs her supplies mixing the tea together, and once she's standing next to him she pauses. "Drink this. It's a tea and can help you relax some. I'm also going to give you some morphling to help with pain before I get to work. I may need to start an IV to."

Helping isn't something she yearns for, but it's a job even to those who can't afford the care. Working discreetly is important to her, but sometimes she doesn't care what others may say. Her eyes land on his as she hands the tea to him. "I can't say it won't hurt, but it'll feel a lot better once it's done." Honesty is huge, but does it really matter?

Who does he need? She looks around unsure of what he's talking about because nobody else is here, but maybe they're trapped outside the walls. Quickly turning, she still doesn't understand, but she has to get to work. "I'll find them. I promise. Just let me get you all fixed up, and then I'll get them." Keeping her voice calm is important. Offering a distraction. Anything to keep his mind off the pain while not asking too many questions. Drawing up some morphling, she takes a band wrapping it around his arm careful to find a good vein. One that won't blow when she pushes it through. One the table, she eyes the clamps, the bandages, the grabs the quick plug, which is just a syringe filled with gauze.

"Just try to relax."

Without second thought, she injects the medicine into his arm knowing it'll start working quickly. Unwrapping the tourniquet, she reaches for the rest of her supplies. Placing gauze around the edge of the blade, she takes a deep breath. One hand wraps around the handle while the other pushes against his stomach. Pulling it straight out is important so no further injury is caused, and once the blade is out, she can see the damage. Blood gushes between her fingers, and all she can do at that moment is take the quick clot syringe and inject the gauze into the hole and watch as it starts soaking the blood giving her a chance to take a breath before working some more.
