Tabil Raidan
District Eight
Fifteen
Male
Got a little scared, got a little scared in the woods
And everywhere I turn, everywhere I turn, nothing's good
Starting with Tabil, the youngest Raidan children are all abnormally short—a reasonable genetic trend, or so it seems until tall kin and painfully thin bodies make it obvious that malnutrition stunted them. Tabil, thanks to ever-increasing factory hours, is even frailer than the others. He is also paler, indoor life denying him his siblings' tans, though natural pigment keeps the disparity subtle. In looks, he makes up for that (and his frequently filthy hair) with a crooked grin and open face. He is less open than his sparkling brown eyes suggest, but the kindness and cheer in his face are true.
Then I saw a little light, saw a little light shine for me
And I found a little path, found a little path at my feet
Like his whole family, Tab is a master at scraping every last use out of things. A sometimes ludicrous saver, he doesn't believe in throwing anything away—not objects, not food, and certainly not people. Learned resilience to heartbreak, stunning artistic creativity, and unbreakable faith in both humanity and God keep him from succumbing to his innate pessimism. Excepting his bad days, when he snaps at everyone and struggles to find a positive thought, his rare speech is always calm and friendly, if a tad secretive.
As I fumble with the gift of my free will
You say, "Hush now, listen to my voice, be still"
Tabi is the middle child of seven, which means that he grew up in a dirt poor family. They're happy, though, because they know that God will carry them through the hardships and care for them in Heaven for eternity. At least, that's the idea. He has his doubts; how could he not, what with Mother's cheating, Father's drinking, his sister's string of not-so-secret girlfriends, and his own gnawing hunger and long hours? Somehow, despite everything, he always finds his way back into the fold. When all is said and done, he's happiest with God. That wouldn't convince most, but Tabil has seen enough of Panem to believe that happiness is the greatest of all miracles.
A + P + H = 300.
