With a faint smile, Rosie pushed herself up and cradled his face in her bloody hands.“I'll try not to do that anymore, and I don't think I'll be stealing your bacon anytime soon,” she reassured him, speaking so faintly that it was hard to understand her. He saw her suddenly try to stand, but she fell back down before he could catch her. He winced as she hit the floor of the shower, and he wondered if she had been hurt. But when Rosie sat up and crossed her legs, he was reassured that she was okay.
“Trey. I never thought I would ask you this, but could you grab my clothes?” Trey glanced over at her bloody clothes. She really wanted those, when there were perfectly clean garments in the house that she could wear? He was sick of all the blood. There was no way she was going to put those back on. Trey looked back at Rosie, and she bit her lip. God, he wished she wouldn’t do that. Now there was an already pretty girl, sitting half naked right in front of him and biting her lip. Images of their kiss flew threw his mind and for a moment he couldn’t take his eyes off her lips. The more masculine part of his brain was screaming at him to do something, but the more sensible part knew he shouldn’t. How much harder was she going to make it for him to stay away from her?
Thankfully, before the situation got awkward, her lip moved from out from under her teeth. Question. Your favorite color isn't red right? Cause I'm tired of it. No. I'm sick of it.“ Oh, yeah. Trey had forgotten the game they were playing. He shook his head in reply. He used to really like red- it was the color of cardinals in the winter, and sunsets, and roses, and apples. But now, after all this blood, he was beginning to really like other colors, like orange or maybe a nice yellow or green. Trey could definitely go for a break from the color red for a while.
He had meant to go get her some more clothes, but Trey had forgotten. Thankfully, his mother came to the rescue. Jody Cooper smiled at them when she entered the room, a pile of clothes in her hands. She stooped down next to them and handed the pile to Trey, as if she were afraid Rosie wasn’t strong enough to hold it. He grimaced as the color red caught his eye, and he picked up the garment to examine it. It turned out to be a red strapless dress, made of light cotton fabric. Maybe she saw the look on his face, because his mother hurried to explain. “I didn’t think you should wear pants again today, it puts unnecessary pressure on your side. This was the only dress I had that looked like it would fit you- it’s small on me… the fabric is nice and light so you should be comfortable.” She finished with an encouraging smile. Well, if it would help Rosie’s side heal up faster, Trey supposed he could stand the color red for another day. She had stitches now anyway, so it wasn’t like the wound would open up again that easily- he’d at least get a break from the blood. Also in the pile he found a pair of undies- Ew. But, he supposed she probably didn’t want to run around in bloody panties forever, and at least they were clean.
Trey opened his mouth to ask his question, but his mother interrupted- “Roselyn, let me help you get cleaned up. Treyson, baby, maybe you should go somewhere else. Girls only,” she told him sternly, as if he were some total horn-dog teenager. Please, woman, I’ve got class. Obliging silently, he rolled his eyes dramatically and sent Rose a “good-luck-with-that-crazy-woman” glance before closing the door behind him.
In his room, he flopped down on his bed and stared up at the ceiling, watching three flies buzz around his light fixture.
