He has no reason to follow the Avox around but Aiden does because he wants to (and also because he can).

For what it's worth he didn't do it on purpose, the following; it started as an accident, coincidence taking both Aiden and the Avox along the same path, with Aiden only a few steps behind. Once he's noticed it though, the whole thing becomes a different story: Aiden makes conscious turns after the pretty-looking boy, slowing when he slows and speeding up when he quickens his pace.

He doesn't think the Avox notices him but he takes care to duck briefly into stores if he thinks the Avox is about to turn around; on one occasion he stalls (hides) behind a large lady dressed in various, glittery leaves sewn together to create a delicate cover for whatever part needs covering.

(It's pretty; too bad he knows the outfit was made only for women.)

Aiden recognizes the road they are walking together (by proxy) upon; leading straight onto Style Street, the path will take them right by a few of those gorgeous shops that Aiden has always longed to get something from. And he knows they have almost everything there - from cakes to flowers to clothes and house decorations that even President Snow might hesitate to buy, expensive as they are. (But people buy them anyway, because they want to - because they can, and that's Aiden's dream.)

The Avox eventually turns into the cake shop and Aiden sees him at the counter with the cashier. Lingering outside, Aiden decides not to enter, instead keeping an eye on the door. I want to talk to him. Or talk at him, as the case usually is with Avoxes (not that Aiden would know but he does, doesn't he?). Either way, when the Avox finally steps out, Aiden turns and walks right into him.

He didn't want to be here. He didn't want to do this. It was the same annoying story over and over again. He was always stuck with the medial tasks because he was a "mere avox" while the actual maids and servants were given tasks that were relatively purposeful. Today's mission; get a birthday cake for the brat. His owner's child was turning eight today, and who did it fall onto to fetch and tote for the little bastard? Of course it was him. It wasn't anything new though, being bossed around by the little guy. Sometimes he felt like he was the kid's pet, and his parents seemed to think the idea was funny so they let it continue.

Already he had shopped for presents - after particular instructions from first the boy and then his mother. The father was rarely at home, something that Shalev was glad for. The tough man scrutinized him horribly, and it seemed nothing he could do could please the giant man. Hopefully he wouldn't be around to judge his work today - work, ha, it was slavery at its finest. The cake shop was a ways from the house he worked at, and lived at he supposed, and he had already been walking for near around twenty minutes before he even reached the correct street. In a mood, as he often was due to his poor treatment, he didn't notice that he was being followed.

Trying to appear calm as he bustled into the cake store, he pulled the written note from his pocket - scrawled in the mother's handwriting - and unfolded them. He heard a couple soft hisses and a few whispers, things he was used to now, when he brought out the note. Every Capitolite knew the signs of an Avox, and a written note like that was a big one. A couple of elderly ladies edged away from him but he ignored them. He wasn't the horrible criminal they all thought he might be, he had merely been caught doing what he had to do to feed his family. No one seemed to understand that, though.

Handing the note and the money to the guy behind the counter, he took the box that he was handed and carefully gripped it so it was out of the way and yet secure. It was a good thing, too, because as soon as he walked out the door he ran into someone standing very rudely in the doorway. Had he been paying attention on his trip here he would have recognized the boy that had been following him the whole way here. Instead, he merely averted his eyes and stepped to the side. He had learned over the years that anything bad that happened was always his fault, the least of which was that he was always the one in the wrong when colliding with someone, even if they walked into him. This boy would surely spit insults at him, maybe attempt to steal the cake from him. It would come out of his food, if he lost this cake, and maybe his hide depending on how upset the brat was.

Damn this kid, he nearly cost me big time. He lifted the cake away from the boy and turned to go on his way, people liked him best when he was on his way out. ("Watch where you're going.") It would have gotten him slapped - or at least glared at - if he could speak, but if he could speak he wouldn't be in this mess. Instead he walked on, tucking the cake carefully against himself once more as he started on his way back home.

The Avox doesn't do that flinch and cower that Aiden sees on most, particularly when something like this happens. Instead, Aiden gets the full force of the boy's momentarily annoyed expression before it smooths over into the mask that Aiden recognizes on others of his status (and even sometimes on Aiden's own face, when Father isn't 'happy'). The other boy's eyes shift to the side, but Aiden watches his expression curiously. Watch where you're going.

The words are not spoken but written across every feature of the Avox boy, even with the smoothed out expression that usually says nothing; Aiden sees them on his face as the Avox boy easily adjusts the box of cake from where he's easily lifted it out of the collision and gives Aiden another blank stare before beginning to continue on his way. "Hey," Aiden says in surprise, and he jogs after the Avox boy. Not the outcome I expected... "I just- Where are you going?"

It's not dark or insulting or even demanding - just honest curiosity pouring from the words out of his mouth. Aiden catches hold of the Avox's sleeve lightly, tugging just a little as he jogs to catch up to the Avox's brisk walk. "Is that for your owner? Can I see it?"
