KATELYN PERSIMMON
The bloodbath had been practically bloodless, with the only casualty being the boy from seven. She wasn't sure how she was supposed to feel about that, but she hoped that wherever he was, he was with his friend. As for the living, well, with twenty-three tributes escaping from the cornucopia, she figured that it was anyone's game to win. At least until the gamemakers dropped the hammer on the tributes for not doing anything.
That left her worrying about the tributes that Kirito and herself were responsible for. She had expected that they wouldn't ally together, but she hadn't expected both of them to team up with a career. It was more of a personal vendetta more than anything else for at this point, but it made her uncomfortable to see them fleeing with careers from two and four respectively. After seeing that, she had torn herself away from the screen to start a batch of chocolate chip cookies, as well as to grab something out of the refrigerator.
The hardest part had been getting the caramel to set correctly, but she was happy with it. For an apple topped cheesecake, the caramel sauce really tied it all together, the sprinkling of cinnamon dusting the browned fruit with red gold the way the autumn leaves did in the orchards back in district eleven. It had set perfectly in the fridge last nigh and was ready for consumption. Of course, Katelyn hadn't eaten any of it. She rarely did. Most of the things she had baked late in the night she left out for Kirito. Today though she thought she'd offer some to someone else before the greater part of the pastries wound up wasted.
There weren't many people in the dining hall at this point, but that was to be expected. Even though it was lunchtime, most people were concerned with watching the rest of the first day play out or finding ways to forget why they were here. Mace Emberstatt was there though, sitting at a table forlornly by himself, his fellow mentor nowhere in sight; which she thought was odd, as far as she knew, the victors from ten were among the closest. But seeing no one else around, she pulled up a chair and slid her latest confectionery creation across the table. "You look like you could use a pick me up."
"I am not afraid to keep on living
I am not afraid to walk this world alone"
