LUANNA XENA district one The reaping was over for yet another year, and that meant that Luanna would have another year to prepare herself for the Games, should she be chosen to be in them or have the chance to volunteer. As a career, the girl from One would spend a lot of her time training. She enjoyed her time practicing with a variety of weapons, as well as sparring with others in hand to hand combat. It felt good to her, having adrenaline rush through her veins. Having her heart pumping fast from physical activity felt good, and Luanna felt that it meant her body was getting stronger and gaining more endurance. It was the morning after the reaping, and Luanna put her long, blonde locks back into a ponytail, and got dressed into clothing that not only complimented her appearance, but would be easy enough to move around in when practicing her skills that day. She ate a quick breakfast and headed out the door, making her way down the street in the direction of the District's training facility. Rather than walking, she decided that, as a way of starting her day's activity right away, that she'd jog. She saw other people out and about that morning, as well. It was quite early in the day, but careers often seemed to like to train first thing in the morning, as a way of getting themselves ready for the day, at least from what she had seen. Thud, thud, thud. Luanna's feet hit the pavement with each step she took while jogging. She kept going until she reached the training facility, and pulled open the heavy door that was the main entrance to the building. Entering the building, she looked around, taking in the surroundings she was used to from all her years of practice that she did there. There was a variety of weapons lining the walls, and targets set up on one site of the room, as well as some dummies meant for weapons practice. In another corner, away from the weapons, were some blue mats on the floor, meant to be padding for the hand to hand combat sparring that was often done there. Of course, the sparring matches were always supervised by the training instructors, ensuring that there was no serious damage done to either person participating in the match. Making her way over to archery equipment that was set up, Luanna took a bow and quiver of arrows. Last time Luanna had done archery was for the Panem Olympics, and she was very disappointed in herself, not having done well. She hadn't even picked up a bow since then, worried that she'd embarrass herself in the training center. Today, though, she felt the need to prove to herself and anyone watching that she was capable of redeeming what she had done. Luanna approached the line where one was meant to stand to shoot at the targets and readied herself. She got in the proper stance, knocked her arrow, raised the bow to a ready position, drew back her arm, anchored the position of the arrow, aimed at the target and fired her first arrow, following through. Thwack! The arrow hit the target just slightly off from the center. Then, Luanna took another arrow, readying it in the same way as she had before. When this arrow was released, it made its landing in the very center of the target. It had only taken Luanna two arrows to hit the center this time. She did much better than she had in the Olympics. Proceeding to shoot the rest of the arrows, she finished off what was in the quiver, her shots landing in rather respectable positions in the target. When she was done, she retrieved the arrows, then putting the equipment away. Luanna proceeded to train with other weapons for the next little while, feeling satisfied with her archery skills all the while. When she was finished, she made sure she had put away all of the things she used, and left the training center, dripping sweat from the amount of work she had put into training with some of the heavier weapons, such as the swords. Regardless of feeling exhausted from the training, she jogged back home. Luanna had always had good endurance, and she knew that would be helpful if she ever ended up in the Games. She hoped she would eventually have a chance to show her skills in front of all of Panem in the Hunger Games. She wanted the glory of winning. Unfortunately, she didn't go in this year. The seventy-fourth Hunger Games weren't her Games, but she'd have another chance in years to come. | TAG: oneshot WORDS: 776 Luanna Xena | Seventeen | D1 |
