Band of Brothers (Mattattack, Open to all)

Dantis blinked and was holding down the urge to turn around. Out of the two men, he was the one more likely to get distracted and lose any bit of concentration. His senses had picked up something on his 'radar', perhaps not animal. The brown-headed youth was trying to figure out if he was 'hearing' the presence or just felt that the atmosphere was occupied more than the four - the deer, the squirrel, him, and Zentaal - that were present.

The younger of the brothers gestured his feeling to the older, but Zentaal shook his head and pulled back the bow just a tad more. If he messed up, it was going to be over Dantis' head, not his.

A red eye narrowed onto the deer, pinpointing lethal but clean killing spots. Zentaal picked the best of the multiple possibilities and readied the shot, adding on a perfectionist's moment.

Zentaal let go of the arrow. A swooshing sound emitted as the projectile cut through the air in a straight line. The older brother made no facial twitch; he knew he got a perfect shot.

The deer shrieked as the arrow pierced the eye--no doubt damaging some nerves and brain tissue. A thud issued as the poor creature fell, a mixture of white and red ooze trickling down its face, tongue out. The squirrel that was present before had, obviously, scurried off.

"Good enough for a kill." Zentaal and Dantis rose from their spots and walked to the deer. "Is it enough for the old hag?"
"I guess so," Dantis said while scanning the area, hoping that the feeling from before was not just a part of a hallucination.
"Don't be bothered by such things. Probably a bird perching." Zentaal shot a quick glance through the trees then reverted his look.

Zentaal readied an arrow, the bow pointing down at the ground. "You're not going to get far," he wearily called out to the trees, "if you're going to hide while making such noise." The man kept his senses concentrated to the surroundings.

"Hey... there's no need for that, Brother," Dantis stammered while waving his hands. "He wasn't hurting us."

Zentaal glared back with his own fiery orbs. He folded his arms and kept his posture straight and firm. The lips were pressed tight into a crease showing disgust and annoyance.

"Oh, really, we didn't mean to bother you, Sir," Dantis said against the thickening atmosphere. He was actually very calm about the situation than afraid. "My brother is just... easily irked. That's the word." His brown eyes turned to Zentaal, who only stood there still, letting Dantis say what he thought.

"I'm sorry, I haven't introduced ourselves. This is Zentaal, my older brother, and I'm Dantis," he said with a meaningful smile. "May I ask who you are, good sir?"

Zentaal watched the obvious blow Dantis' choice of 'greeting' connected to Zeke. It was almost the same type of emotional reaction he himself replied to the brown-haired boy, with no words and no twitching. Dantis was too much of a good-mannered, goody-goody boy raised by a saggy, old-fashioned hag of a mother with a strict upbringing. Zentaal would never like Dantis' mannerisms, but he grew to be - slightly - tolerant.

Dantis smiled and went up to Zeke with boldness; and, once getting to a good enough proximity, he held out his hand with friendliness. "It's nice to meet you, Zeke Orton. I'm sorry if Zentaal is being such a sourpuss. He's always like that." His face glowed with some bliss, hoping to dismiss his brother's attitude and lighten the animosity the two men were producing.

Sudden shock caused Dantis' eyes to grow big. A tight and powerful grip from Zeke enveloped his hand, then proceeding to move it up and down in a rough fashion, seemingly angry.

Dantis only smiled and said, "Wow, Zeke, you're plenty strong! Such a firm shake!" He did not dismiss that the tension was still present between the new acquaintance and Zentaal, but he could not help but be cheery about the man's mannerisms.

Zentaal merely kept his posture, going long seconds without blinking, expressing and emphasizing the irksome feeling in his heart. The man was judging Zeke in every category possible. He could already tell that the male was just as - if not less - grumpy as he, himself, was.
