The District Search (Contd. Open)

I sigh. She shouldn't have to think like this. She did come to District 10. And sure, her parents weren't here. But that doesn't mean that she can't continue looking. She has to keep going. She can't give up. And if that means that she'll have to look all over Panem for it, she'll be able to do that. I'd be able to help her. I could supply her with food, with water. I could give her a map. My father has two maps of Panem. He keeps one hung up in his study - the remains of what was originally called North America sketched onto this piece of large paper - the districts' locations marked with a bold number. Yes, she could use this. It wouldn't be really helpful though. I mean, all of the districts are relatively near each other, so it wouldn't be that difficult to find your way around. But some places are large, like District 4 - fishing. But others, like District 12 - coal, are relatively small. She could get lost. But wait, isn't there other maps... Ones that show the mapping of the districts?

I'm about to look for them when I hear a noise. Shit. Somebody's here. I hear a loud voice. It's my fathers? How? He's not supposed to be back for at least another day. Did he want to surprise my mother or something? What's going on? I hear another voice. It's my mother's. So they're both home... Something's amiss. The atmosphere outside of the french doors that lead to the study is thick with anger.

"Quick, hide!"

There's a small room that's connected to my father's study. It's hidden by a wood panel in the wall - whenever I'd play hide-and-seek with my babysitter, I'd hide in there, and she'd never find me. It's somewhat dark, but there's a light-bulb in the room, as well as a bed.

I quickly push on the wood panel, and it swings outward, almost hitting me in the face. We have to be extremely silent; My parents could walk into the room any minute, and they'd have me arrested in a minute. I shove Ariadne into the room, quietly apologize, and close the panel.

I dash to the computer, and log off. My father's very paranoid when it comes to his computer. He'd think that somebody was spying on him, and he'd demand to have answers. Since the hidden room is too small to fit two people in, I hide behind the door. There's a small area next to the door that slopes inward, hiding me from the parentals.

The door flings open. My parents storm in, yelling at each other like mad.

"ELOUISE. WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT THAT MAN!?"

"I don't know anything! I have no idea as to who that is!"

"You're a liar! The man burst into the meeting, claiming that he had a son. MY SON. He doesn't know about my family! I don't tell people about my family. So I must conclude that it was YOU. Greg is too much of a whimp to do anything like talk to a freaking stranger. So tell me Elouise. Is he my son, or not?"

"I'm so sorry... I never told him until last night, when he contacted me. P-p-please forgive me - it was a mistake. I've regretted having him the moment I realized that he wasn't yours."

Then there's slience. I can see the silhouette of my father. His head is facing the ground. His fists are clenched, his knuckles shaking. But then he starts to laugh. It's quiet at first, but quickly becomes a booming cackle.

"HA! I KNEW IT! I KNEW THAT NO SON OF MINE WOULD BE A FRICKING REJECT LIKE HIM! It's all YOUR fault. You WHORE!"

And suddenly, my father is holding a sharp paper weight. I hear a loud clunk, and then a slam as my mother's body falls onto the floor. Oh my god. My father is a murderer. My mother is dead. But am I... a bastard child? I think so...

Well, that would mean that I have no relation to the man who I once called "father". And that would mean that I wouldn't need to show any guilt when I perform the following act.

I'm still holding the vase. The heavy china is shaking in my hand. But my father must pay for his sins. My mother didn't deserve it... she didn't want me... But she didn't deserve it... and now she's dead.... The realization hits me like a ton of bricks. Tears well up in my eyes, replaced by a fury that I didn't know that I had.

I fling the door closed with a BANG. My father turns around. My mother's corpse is on the floor, a large pool of blood forming.

"You bastard."

My voice is low and hoarse. H-how could he do this? To his own family? My father turns around. There's an insane look on his face. He's grinning from ear-to-ear, chuckling.

"I'm not the bastard. You are." And with that, he starts cackling like a madman. On the other hand, my eyes narrow. I snarl. This lunatic is not my father. He isn't. He's a monster.

"F*** YOU!"

That's the only word that comes out of my mouth as I throw the vase at his exposed head. Well, it's the only reasonable word to srcream at this point. I guess being forced into baseball practice came in handy. With a crash, he's knocked unconcious.

And that's it. Now there's two bodies on the floor. One is lifeless, and the other's unconcious.

(sorry, I just realized that I was powerplaying but I sort of really liked this post...)
