Another day of hunting to keep from starving. She had wander pretty far from District Twelve. But no worries, she knew her way all through these woods and the fastest ways home. But right now she was more focused on getting a meal before the storm came in. Alena had her bow and quiver slung over her should. She was a sharp shot, all she need was one shot, to get her a turkey or something she and her dad could share and save them. But all the game seemed to have taken cover for the upcoming storm. Taking in her surrounds slowly Alena noticed some faint tracks. Following them through the woods, she moved, barely making a sound.

That's when she saw someone else up ahead, under a large tree. Alena being quiet and suspicious by nature hung back and just watch for a minute. What would someone else be doing out here before a storm.

The back of my neck prickled, a warning sign that someone was watching me--or really, that someone was near. My head snapped up and I looked around, one hand already going for my dagger. Once again, it was me and my paranoia, not that I could really help it. Personality habits were hard to get rid of.

I let my eyes pass over the scatter of bushes that were near the trees. At first I couldn't see anything, but then I noticed a figure, blending in well with her surroundings but noticeable nonetheless. My eyebrows shot up in surprise and I scrambled to my feet, my dagger out in an instant.

"It's not like I'm from the Capitol," I said pointedly. Neither was I a Career, but I didn't add that because just then another sound pricked my ears and my head instantly swung back around. A girl with short, dark hair, approaching me. My head whipped back to the other girl and I felt a stab of frustration. Who was I supposed to deal with first?

I ended up with a compromise. "Hi," I said to the two of them, still not letting go of my dagger.

The girl with the bow, Alena, mentioned something about shelter. I nodded along and slipped my dagger back in my boot where it stayed there, wet and uncomfortable. But I felt the urge to show them that I could be trusted. Besides, I could fight hand-to-hand pretty well, and outrunning them shouldn't be too hard.

Just then the District Four girl--Aine--slipped on a group of mossy rocks. I watched her stagger for a moment, surprised and then impressed. District Four was a Career District; they were commonly grouped with Districts One and Two during the beginning of any Game. The fact that Aine wasn't showing any signs of hostility or making attempt to kill us was surprising. But still, the way she slipped, and her comment right after--she'd earned some of my respect.

"Don't worry about it," I told her and yanked on the sleeves of my black sweatshirt that was damp from the rain, pulling it over my head. "What I'm about to do anyway is humiliating enough." I wrenched the hood behind my back and slipped it over my head where it hung there, suspended behind my T-shirt. Then I wrapped the sleeves around my waist, feeling like an idiot in a straitjacket. Grimacing I turned to Alena. "Well then. Lead the way please."
