I don't usually go off on my own like this but things are starting to change. Dustin always said I sometimes knew things about him before he knew them himself, I guess that included that he'd start having to grow up a bit eventually. Also that he was gay which seemed to bother him more for some reason.
Well when it comes to figuring things out sometimes it's not very helpful to have someone who can pretty much read your mind sitting next to you. Not to mention it gets just a little bit awkward for me.
So I'm giving him some space, I'm going shopping. That's what normal girls usually do right?

Alena-

Alena was heading to the Hob to trade and maybe pick a few things up. She didn't have a lot to trade with today but it was better than nothing. Her dad didn't want her around anyway, they hated each other so Alena made a point to just stay out of his way. She was almost to the Hob anyway.

I'm digging through a box of clothes on special set up outside a store. I'm not lacking in money but not one for fancy clothes either. Something near the bottom of the box catches my eye. I reach in my height nearly causing me to flip over into the box. I pull myself out holding on to my prize. It's dark red wrinkled and way to big, perfect. Clutching my prize I take a step back from the box and move to turn towards the store entrance. The movement puts me right in the way of a passerby who walks right into me.
OOC: She actualy bumped into Alena but won't admit that to herself.

Alena-

Alena was walking to the place she sold her game when she stumbled backwards after being bumped, but managed to right herself. "Sorry, I guess I wasn't paying enough attention." She picked up her leather pack and swung it back over her shoulders, it wasn't a bad drop so all the game and most of the berries should be ok. "Are you alrigh?"

OOC: let's just say this is before the shop thing.
I actually look over my shoulder wondering why Dustin isn't saying anything before I remember that I'm alone. I have to speak for myself for once.
"That's alright" I barely whisper.
The first thing I notice is what the girl's carrying. Dead animals, she a hunter, or at lest found a way to get a hold of dead animals. Not exactly something that was easy to accomplish legally. I smile at the girl because this pretty much makes her a good person, if not an interesting one.

Alena forced a smiled, "Glad your alright." She felt a bit nervous that this girl would turn her in for having dead game which was pretty obviously poached. Most people in the Seam don't care and buy the meat off of her but she still can't help the anxious feeling. She'd already been whipped one. Alena brushed it off as her being paranoid. She spoke quietly and uneasily, "I was just going to do some trading at the Hob. I'm Alena. What would your name be?"

I can feel my mouth drop open. Sure this girl is older then me but not by that much and she's going off to the black market all by herself. She just said it so casually I thought for a moment she might be joking but were else do you sell poached meat?
"You've actually been to The Hob?" I can't help but ask.

Alena nodded, "Yup, I go there almost everyday. I have to trade for a living. Unfortunate but true." Alena fidgeted with the straps on her bag. Losing her mom and sister had left her pretty poorly off since her father was so useless. "I know it's illegal but I have no other means to make any money or eat." Alena silently prayed this girl wouldn't turn around and turn in her to the peacekeepers.

This girl had to break the law just to feed herself and I'm shopping because I'm bored. I throw the shirt back in the box.
"You must be very brave I would never be able to do that"
There I go lying again. Haven't I already proved what I'm capable of when it comes to my own survival. I know why I'm lying though, I'm at an advantage when people think I'm weak. I always think like this, like at some point I'll have to fight back. Even this girl who seems so nice and I'm setting the field so that I can easily destroy her. The only person who seems immune to this terrible nature of mine is Dustin and right now he's not here. That's right he's not here so I'm free to be as terrible as I like.

"Very brave or very stupid. I don't think I've figured it out yet myself." Alena sensed something not quite normal about this girl, so she kept her guard up just in case. No this girl couldn't hurt her psychically, Alena was sharp from her hunting and had the contents of her pack if need be. No, this girl seemed to be plotting and Alena couldn't figure out what. She watched her carefully like she'd watch a fox while she was hunting. "I'm sure you could pull it off if you ever got that hungry or desperate. People deep inside still have some instinct left that keeps other animals alive."

I could practicaly hear my father's voice telling me I had to make other friends besides Dustin. I let myself soften and tried to stop myself thinking such dark thoughts.
"Ya and starvation isn't a major problem in this distrct" I say sarcasticaly.

Alena-

Alena's eyes narrowed, see didn't know what this girl's issue was but she didn't seen exactly charming. "I know it's a huge issue. My mom and sister dead, I think I know how bad off everyone in this District is." Alena's voice had held a certain venom in it. She didn't want to make enemies but that last comment had struck a bitter chord with her. She didn't know whether she should apologize or stay on the defensive.

I deflate, making myself look immediately ashamed and apologetic. The whole thing is easy enough to fake, I've done it enough in my lifetime. I am really sorry that I said what I did but I'm not very good at expressing my feeling to anyone besides Dustin who's able to pick up on the slightest change in my body language. That means when he's not around I have to exaggerate my actions so I appear to be reacting normally.
"I'm sorry" I say looking at the ground "I just meant it's obvious that not everyone is brave enough to risk what you do"
It's probably over the top. I don't talk much either and it shows. I either come across overly innocent or uncomfortably mature when I speak.

Alena was comforted by the fact she was a fast running if the peacekeepers got called, she could easily get up and over the fence if she had to. It was rather sad Alena was always counting on people doing the worst they could do. She never believed in the goodness of people. As far as Alena was concerned they were all slabs of meat looking out for themselves.

She seems to be eying her exits, it's not me though. I've almost forgotten that she's heading to the Hob with poached meat. If she were to get caught now I would probably be in alot of trouble too for just being with her. Not like it matters, I guess I'm not exactly one for rules. I mean I've broken much bigger ones and gotten away with it every time. It's wierd being able to think about that stuff without worrying about Dustin picking up on it. Kinda freeing.
