Falling (open to all at rebel's base)

"It's just ibuprofen," I say calmly. "It'll just make your wounds hurt less." I examine her ankle again and say, "I'm suspecting a hairline fracture, but if we're lucky it'll just be a sprain. Either way, you'll have to stay off it for a few days. After that, we'll check it again, and if it still hurts I think we'll have to put a splint on it."

I feel bad for her. She just wants to do her duty. But if she wants to do it well, she has to be in as good condition as possible, which will be crappy if she doesn't give this time to heal. "If you don't let it heal, you won't be doing too well in fulfilling your duties," I say carefully. "If you let it heal, you won't just be doing your job well, you'll also know to be more careful. And while I know that you can move your foot around, it hurt you a lot. Even though you didn't tell me just how bad it hurt, I could tell. You'll just have to wait."

Luna is getting upset, which is probably making her heart pound harder, which will make the blood flow more quickly out of her wounds. I look her in the eye and say calmly, "No, it's nothing permanent. You'll be back on your feet in a couple of weeks. And you're not useless. Just calm down."

"I can make you a crutch so you can walk around, but you won't be able to hunt or fight until your ankle is completely healed," I say. A thought comes to me, and I say, "You know, Ari knows a lot about making bombs. Maybe he could teach you how to do it, too? I could teach you a bit about first aid along with that." I grin and say, "Working with Ari, you're gonna need to know first aid. Believe me."

I nod, happy that she's realized she's not useless. "That'd be great if you could teach me a bit about knife throwing," I say. "I know how to shoot an arrow and I'm good with melee, I just need to learn about knife throwing now. But first, you should rest. After taking a fall like that, you're going to need to take a nap, at the very least."

I smile down at Luna, then put a blanket over her. It's too late to go back home, but I told my parents that I might camp in the woods tonight, so I just retire to my bed upstairs. It's the first time I've used this bed. It's comfortable and soft. I quickly fall asleep.

I wake up to gentle sunlight trickling into the room through the windows. I'm momentarily confused as to where I am, but then the events of the night come back to me and I quietly dress, then go back downstairs. Luna is still asleep on the couch, so I carefully check her bandages, trying not to wake her. Everything seems to be in order, so I gather the spoils of my hunt from last night and steal through the woods until I reach the borders of the main part of District 9. I sneak back into my house, depositing the food from the hunt in the kitchen. I turn around and see Joshua, my seven-year-old brother, rubbing his eyes and watching me. I smile at him. "Morning, Joshua," I say quietly as to not disturb my sleeping family. "Can you tell Mom and Dad that I've gone out hunting when they wake up? I have to go." I turn to the door when Joshua stops me by saying, "You're never home anymore." I turn around to face him and smile. "What do you mean?" I ask. "You're always away, going on more hunts than you did before. Why are you never home?" He's staring at me accusingly, so I offer him a sad smile and reply, "Sorry I'm not around much anymore, Josh. Tell you what. When you're a bit older, I'll teach you how to hunt, and you can come with me all the time." I smile encouragingly at him, which seems to satisfy him. "All right," he says glumly. I sit him down at the table with some breakfast, then hurry back out into the woods and to the rebels' base to check on Luna.
