I've never denied killing all those people.
There is blood on my hands. I don't think there's ever been a day in the past year or so when I haven't had to wash away the sticky redness of blood from my palms. I can't help getting chronic nosebleeds though, and it's something that I've suffered from my whole life. I usually get two or three nosebleeds a day if the humidity is high, but sometimes I'm lucky and it's just the one. I went to see a doctor when I was younger, but we couldn't afford the treatment, (my mother was dirt poor, always was
), and so I've been suffering ever since. Suffering so much that I want to scream. I made her scream instead.
It's incredibly annoying, as I do pride myself on keeping clean and smart. My blonde hair is always combed over to the right in more or less the exact same style every day. I clean and press my own clothes with precision, so that when I put on my shirt for the day it looks more or less brand new. People have called me obsessive, but they couldn't be further from the truth, I don't get funny if things aren't just-so, I just enjoy looking clean and tidy. It fools enough people. People are so trusting and stupid. Put on a polite face and they'll believe anything.
I like to think that I am well mannered and pleasant to talk to. My mother always taught me that the secret to getting far in life is good manners, which is strange advice for a prostitute to give. I suppose she always wanted me to be everything that she wasn't. I enjoy the company of others, but I haven't had as much interaction with others my age in a while because of what's happened, but I'm hoping to get out there and meet people again just as soon as the Peacekeepers are off my back. Disposing of a body with them around ain't easy.
You see, my mother disappeared a few months ago. The whole situation shook me up a little. She was all I had in terms of family - She never let me see my half-brothers and sisters. Losing her was losing my world, and it meant that my world was going to change. For the fucking better.

I was taken to the Detention Center for questioning. It was horrible being treated like a murderer. Of course they suspected me - I was the only person she new and all of a sudden she had vanished. When I reported the crime they took me in instantly. After two weeks in a cell (Which was no place for a traumatized boy to be) they released me due to a lack of evidence, but they haven't stopped watching me since. It's unnerving having them breathing down my neck, but completely understandable. Because they have it right.
I have since been making Missing Posters and plastering them around District Four. The official Peacekeeper statement was that she must have fallen into the sea late at night, but I refuse to believe that, and my posters show that I haven't given up just yet. Or more likely that I'm trying to look like a pathetic lost child.
I had to change my name. I am eighteen years of age and now a responsible adult. Having no mother means that I am a Libertine now, and not a Cowie. It also gives me the freedom to see my other half-siblings as much as I like although I probably should keep my distance.

As a child I was always keen to find out more about the Libertines, but my mother was fierce about it all. She told me I wasn't one of them, she said that I was a Cowie and that I shouldn't compare myself to the famous Libertines. I did though. I always watched them from afar. After Penelope was Reaped I especially wanted to see my half-siblings, but again my mother was strict about it all (She hates my father, that much has always been clear). Then Learna was Reaped, and I couldn't stay away. My mother beat me when I went to their house. I didn't even go in, I just peered in through the window to see how they were coping. She was always so controlling, my mother. But not any more. She can't stop me from doing what I want.
I'm trying to keep it all together, but it's tough living on your own and without the one person who has looked after you for your whole life. I would say that I have become more impulsive. I panic when under pressure and generally get emotional whenever I have to talk or think about my mother. The Peacekeepers know that I'm in a fragile place, but still they persist with questioning me or coming to my house to search around. Don't they have any decency or discretion? Although, less and less Peacekeepers have been coming round recently, at least not the same ones.
I think they got the message.
I don't like the rumors that follow me around. Of course being a suspect in my mother's disappearance isn't something that can be kept quiet, and I do get some funny looks in the street, but I just try to ignore them. I'm not one to react to how people view me. I suppose all I can do is try to get with my life now, and keep putting up Missing Posters until the whole situation blows over. And then the chaos begins. Then Kasper Libertine comes out from the depths to lure in those stupid enough to think me shallow water.
