N I C O

My name is Nicolai Blackcoat but I prefer the name Nico.
Short for Nocolai, long for Ni.
I was born in the year of the Fifty First hunger games.
That makes me what, thirteen I think?
I'm no good at math. I prefer to spend my time with the animals my parents breed.
I am the first, and last born male to my parents.
They discourage me from sticking out too much,
but there's far too much to see outside of these pens and oil fields.

Honor The Charge They Made

Nico of the Blackcoat family has been raised among his family's mongrels since the day he was born. His duty on the ranch is to raise the small pack of Shepards on the ranch. Usually, these go to Peacekeepers or to the Capitol. An incident when he was far younger with one of the dogs earned him a nice, shapely bite-scar on his left, lower arm. He likes the scar, and enjoys finding different shapes within it when he seems bored.

He stands at a measly 5'1, has the makings of a deep baritone voice, (currently, he still sounds like a kid) and has a dark tan covering most of his body. Being outside has its perks- he doesn't really sunburn anymore. He weighs around 120 pounds, with only a small bit of muscle covering his frame. Nico definitely has a runner's frame, not a body-builder's size.

Being a prankster, Nico always has a crooked grin or a smirk on his playful baby face. Most everyone knows when he gets his signature shitty-little-smirk, he's done something to the water supply again. While his face is for the most part soft, below his dark, copper eyes rests an obviously broken-more-than-once nose. (He has a habit of running into things.) His dark, almost-black hair often sticks to his forehead, as he is normally messy from his adventures outside.

Honor The Light Brigade

Nico definitely has two sides to his personality- on initial contact, he produces an air of confidence, (again, with the shitty crooked smirk) and happiness. This side of him is a prankster, who likes to leave small things around; tacks on a chair, water above a door, those sorts of things. Although, if it were his choice, he would spend the majority of his time with his family's German Shepard pack. He raises them, feeds them, trains them, and leads them.

The second, darker side he attempts to keep hidden is the anti-social aspect of himself. Upon closer scrutiny, he has low self esteem, and is at risk for becoming a bully himself. Nico always has to be the center of attention. He is terrified of being left out of the loop, of never amounting to anything in his life. All he really wants is to find a girl to settle down with in the next few years and leave his past behind.

On the capitol- Nico has a sort of indifference to them. They watch the hunger games, yes, they throw the reapings and the hunger games, yes. However, Nico's family has never had to take the tessera being relatively well off in the community. Still, he remains terrified of his name being called during the famous ceremony, although his name only has three slips within the large bingo-style orb. His family has been called the 'Capitol's Lap Dogs' (Go figure) for their slight upper hand in society.

He remembers the fifty eighth games, and how Lethe Turner won. He remembered the way the district ate for the entire year after, and craves that sort of attention and affection from the rest of five.

Noble Six Hundred

Nico was born in the aftermath of the fifty first Hunger Games, in the fall to two well off members of the community. He is an only child to the two ranchers who also raise a small herd of cattle for consumption in the capitol and upper districts. Many are jealous of his parents, who are paid straight up by the capitol for their angus beef and milk. (His parents feel they should send their materials to whoever offers to pay the most, and the Captiol had a deeper pocket.)

At five he started school, and the initial bullying and teasing started. His self esteem fell drastically- he could not understand why they wanted to hurt him so badly. After making no friends, he turned to the family's small collection of dogs, being raised on the side. He took over that pack instead of his peers, and began working with them, stunned when they listened to what he asked. They didn't care if his parents were rich, or the capitol's dogs. They liked Nico for Nico. He became somewhat the alpha of his pack, and still cares deeply for them all. He wears a small vial of ashes around his neck, from the first puppy he raised by hand who passed away of some strange coughing illness. (Kennel cough.)

Now thirteen, he spends most of his time in school, or with the dog pack. Here, he is truly happy, and here, he has made his friends. If he were to go into the arena, he would most likely not make any alliances himself- someone would have to approach him. Working on a farm may have advantages for him- he knows how to slaughter a cow, using a knife the same way his family has done for generations as his father says. However, when the cows are held to be still, it is a completely different manner to chase someone down and launch a knife at their back.
