If I could describe my appearance to you, it would be very brief. I am a person. They say that each individual sees another in their own light, based on personality and opinion, and so it is very difficult for someone to describe themselves, given their own opinion of themselves is purely internal. I would describe myself as clean, plain, ordinary. I suppose that's not much to go on, but truth be told I don't really know what else to say. It's what I am - Average. Average height, average weight, average hair. I think that's maybe a good thing.

It's probably expected of me to describe what I wear. That could probably give you a good indication of what I look like. Unfortunately there's not much I can tell you about the way I dress, because I myself don't know how I dress. Ordinarily could be a good way to describe it. I wear what I'm given, which recently consists of a plain t-shirt and cargo pants with boots. It's quite military, but for a labourer working in a grain factory it's suitable enough.

Now I am expected to describe my personality. Heh, if only it were that easy. I don't really have a personality. I'm blank, boring, plain, ordinary. It's like I'm a default human, the most average person there is.

Here's the kicker, folks. I have amnesia. I can't remember anything before two weeks ago. I woke up in the back yard of some farmer wearing dark leather combat armor and clutching a knife. He thought I was from District Thirteen - Maybe I am? He took me in, did Jacob Hart. I didn't know my name, I didn't know where I came from or what was going on. All I had to go on was a bullet in my shoulder that Mr. Hart kindly removed. Like I said, I don't remember a damn thing from before the past two weeks, and I feel as plain and as ordinary as you can be. It's like someone hit my reset button.

Only, there's something else. Instinct. Not natural, it feels forced. It's almost like a code in my head that I've known my whole life. No, not instinct, just something I once knew and haven't forgotten. Like, I can't even remember my own name, but I can read and write and do math. I feel an urge to exercise daily, and I've been keeping myself in shape in accordance with that. Then there's the weird stuff, things that ordinary people don't know or think about. For example, I know that on a rainy day in certain humidity and the altitude of District Nine that I can run flat out for half a mile before my hands start to shake. I know the best place to find a gun in the Grain Factory is in the toolbox in the manager's office. I know that on a dry day I can climb the justice building in three minutes, twenty two seconds, and I know where the six fire exits are on the outside - And I have only seen it once, briefly. I know the best way to dispose of a dead body is to chop it up and leave it for pigs, who will grind down the bones with their teeth and digest all the evidence.

How can I know that, and not know who I am?

Jacob figures I'm either some kind of agent from District Thirteen, or a Career. He knows I'm a killer, that's for sure. It's not normal for someone my age to be able to throw a pitchfork as accurately as I can without training - And you don't get training out in Nine. I have to agree with him, it's probably the case, but it doesn't explain how I ended up out here. I'm going to find out where I came from, how I got here and who the hell shot me. It's all I've got to live for, and I'll be damned if anyone stands in my way.
