Matthew Dunham District 2

The first thing you'll notice about Matthew is his strong, bulky built and height. He's impressive and likes to show it off. Coming from one of the richer families he's well nourished with athletic figure.

Matt's hair is blonde, bleaching considerably in the summer, his beard has a shade of red in it. His nose is straight, the eyes are greyish, blue depending on the light, sometimes even green while his skin is fairly pale and burns easily in the sun.

There's a small mole on his cheek just next to his full lips. His smile is winning, the frown however very intimidating especially for his age.
Since he broke his arm as a child the bone is slightly shifted and occassionally gives him trouble. There's a small scar on his back from a rock he fell on while skinny dipping at a lake. Also another career, a girl named Kaygha, hit him in the face with a rock during a fight in the streets, which left him not only emotionally scared but also with a 8 inch scar from his left eye/cheekbone to his temple.
Matt took part in the pregames and the training for it, which left him with a whole array of scars from knifes and arrows mostly on his left arm and butt. he also lost two finger in a fight against his oponent Tyren Orca, which were reattached at the hospital.

Matt is pretty confident in his abilities and skills. No, scratch that. He's totally full of himself. Most of his skills are physical from being able to run fast, lift heavy weights to winning a lot of fights, which results in him using his fists more than is good for him. If somebody talks to him in the wrong way he'll have it coming.

A lot of people think he's not the smartest tool in the shed because of his short fuse but Matt is actually well educated. He just hasn't found a way to make use of all that knowledge yet because he doesn't know how to express his thoughts so other people can easily understand him. Usually he gets frustrated because his thoughts run too deep and he only serves people half the information they need to understand him. Nobody can possibly follow his train of thought if he ever offers it. The end result is usually frustration, which then gets channeled into his fists.

He's a trouble maker. Mostly because he enjoys a good fight and doesn't stop at boys. If the opportunity presents itself he will also push around a smaller girl. This 'quality' however is frowned upon even at the career training center.

Then again Matthew would like to be much more than just the career or bully. His father is a great inventor and has helped his community out at every chance he could. A lot of people don't understand how his son could turn out so 'limited' because they don't know the real Matt.

Matthew Dunham is the youngest of two children. His sibling is a girl. Therefore he had a special stand in the family. His father hopes that Matthew will one day take over the engineering company that he inherited from his grandfather. Matthew got pampered from his early childhood on. He received training in various sports including fighting skills apt for becoming a career if he wishes.

His mother left when he was only four due to differences with his dad, who from now on declared that all women are evil. Matthews father never understood how she could leave and blamed his hardship on her and the female gender in general.

More time and money was invested in good schooling though.
From his baby days on his sister loved the little boy and took him under her wings until eventually roles were reversed and the teenage brother could stand up for his sister. Unfortunately he didn't quite figure out when to stop, when they girl got uncomfortable with his protectiveness.
On many occasions when his sister had guys interested in her he would interfere and scare them off until Trinity finally told him to stay away from her for good. The break with his sister still exists and weighs quite heavy on his heart. Especially since she's had a baby that Matt's never gotten to see.
Matt tried to mend it but his sister wouldn't talk to him so he finally made it a rule to simply stay away from girls, who were simply confusing frustrating creatures. Nobody could possibly understand them.
The older sister moved out. Despite the big female influence in his life he never started understanding how women 'work'. He sees them as moody, unlogic and not self sufficient. It might be the result of his father always making him feel like he was the superior one in the family
He graduated from school a year early and is now in the process of learning his fathers business.

Matthew has a few friends, mostly careers in training or other bullies, who will go around school and take whatever they want from younger kids. Why he hangs out with these kind of boys he's not so sure because he doesn't really believe in their behavior. On the other hand he doesn't want to be seen with anybody who is 'inferior'. Day after day he questions more how to change their ways but has troubles telling them how he feels.
Lately he's stopped seeing them on a daily basis and started to write down what he thinks so his short fuse can't always ruin things for him.



When it comes to girls Matthew is absolutely inexperienced, which is perfectly fine for him. "I have a sister. Why would I want another girl in my life?"
Maybe girls aren't just for him all together.
Whenever he meets them he treats them like they aren't equals. Usually he talks down to them or simply ignores them. The few girls he'd ever shown any interest in knew about his reputation and showed him the cold shoulder. Therefore he thinks all 'chicks' aren't worth his time.

Where his life will take him still remains to be seen.

Matthew has been training hard to become a career. At the center he had to train with a girl, named Kyanite, whom he pushed around and mocked for a while until they decided to throw knifes at each other in the woods and see who's the better fighter. One thing led to another and they didn't simply end up hurting each other but find comfort in eahc others arms in a hidden cabin in the woods where they made love.
For the longest time he wouldn't want to be seen in public but after a brief fall out he realized that he had fallen for the girl.

For now he sticks to not making his realtionship a public affair but doesn't deny it either. Close friends know about it.

Recently he's been going through phases where he wanted to become a peace keeper to do something 'good' but he's well aware that not all peace keepers use their power in the right ways so he's still questioning that choice. If he decides to become one he wants to be just and a 'helper of all people in Panem' though. Even those folks in the low districts, which he is tempted to see...kind of like an adventure.
He's determined to finish the course because the last thing he wants is his fathers mercy and the job at the engineering company that comes with it.

Matthew used to be a career and came second in what we called the 'pregames'...a tournament where careers fight against each other as a prep for the games. He quit after almost killing a guy he became friends with.

Matt then joined the peace keepers and almost graduated with the help of Brody O'Rourke, his mentor, but just before graduation there was a fight at his girl friends house where her father got out of hand because of her choice of boyfriend(and finding out she's pregnant) and punched him, pushed her and another pk in training. He ended up getting charged and put a charge for trespassing on Matt, so he got kicked from the academy after receiving the adequat punishment of 20 lashes. Not even his friend and interrogator, Brody, could help him out of that.

Not even two months later Jins, who had been torturing Kyanite all her life with his strange possessive love, broke out of prison and set out to kill her and the unborn baby because he won't allow her to be with anybody but himself. To see her carry another mans child makes him blow his mind. In the wake of the riot both Brody, Matt's mentor, and Vy, their friend got shot but Matt managed to finally take out Jins once and for all...

The aftermath wasn't all burps and giggles though. At least their relationship has become strong enough to outlast the problems.


She listens intently to every word I say although it's not much and not easily understandable because of my awkward pronouciation. Yet she sits there in silence taking it all in while looking out at the leafless bushes and trees swaying in the strong wind.

I swear I never intended tolet any ofmy inner thoughts slip to her because I'm sure she understands me as little as I understand her. Most likely she will blame it all on herself again, just like the fact that I like to bust my knuckles open when I'm frustrated-heck even when I'm not frustrated.

Once I let that one NAME drop I can see her flinch just the tiniest bit out of the corner of my eyealthough I'm also looking out at the bushes and trees that shield the old house from the nearby factory building.

I freaking hate that name just as much as her. He's become almost as menacing to me as he did to her because of what I did. He tried to end many lifes, he didn't . I did.

Suddenly I hear her whisper my name. Then she gets up, wraps her arms around me and buryies her head in my chest. At first my arms won't close as they usually do because I'm too self absorbed, not ready to accept love.
But she melts my barrier away just like that. With much more force than any punch that's been delivered by my opponent. It's what her presence does to me. To feel her head against my chest makes something break deep inside of me. It's painful and soothing at the same time.
Here she is, when I behave like a rejctive ass, she holds me tight. When I feel like a murderer she simply shows me love.

I break, my self errected barrier of hate breaks,

My breaths become short and hitched as my throat tightens and my face becomes red with shame and tears. From anger to shame in just one second. That's when I burry my face in her hair and blow out a slow, labored breath.

I want to tell her everything but will she understand me or load more blame on herself? She always thinks Jins' attacks are partly her fault. I can't possobly admit that me killing that man is bothering me so much when nobdy else is putting any blameon me but thanking me for it. She'll never understand.

Nor will she understand what that girl triggered during our fight. She brought up so many old feelings about girls and what they are, that I thought I had left behind. Kyanite would question whether I'm the right guy to be a father to her daughter.

One lonely tear rolls down my cheek at the understanding that I will never be the kind of man our daughter needs as a good role model.
