From the moment of his birth, Michael had been an outcast. Not even his parents had wanted him and had left him on the steps of the local orphanage as soon as he was weaned off of breast milk. In the beginning he seemed as though he might recover from this abandonment with little effect but it was not to be. As soon as his eyes shifted from a baby's blue to a dry grey the other children began to view him as different - foreign. Even though he was too young to understand their words he had still felt their meaning and his mind started to reject attention. The faint care offered in the orphanage didn't give him enough of a reason to hold onto the hope of human contact and he merely feigned at the childhood play for his young mind's curiosity.
As he grew older his hair grew darker, a trait he had gained from his father though no one knew, causing the children to shun him further. Each time he was ignore he drew further into himself, cutting any potential friendships he might have before they started. While he recoiled to the corner, the other children moved away to leave a visible space between themselves and him. At this point he began to refuse to go outside, preferring to remain locked up inside. The lack of sunlight on his skin caused him to fade in one final way - skin colour - and so he was left looking like a black-and-white photograph of the boy he could have been.
Whispers about whether he was even human flew around the orphanage constantly, and any new comers would always be warned about him the moment they entered. So, curious about the others if only to see if he could ever be like them, he watches from the corner - unable to find enough enjoyment in the activities the other children so fondly took part in. He just sits in his corner, searching for an answer to who he is and where he really belongs.

Michael is a little boy.Personality:
Big gray eyes peek under bushy dark eyebrows, offset against ghostly skin that makes him wonder if there really is warm red blood running below the surface or whether even that is only a shade of grey. He never spends any time outside in order to darken it again, so he remains paper white. Black hair is a shock of darkness on the top of his head. He stands no higher than 4'9" though he is proportional to everything but his age. While he doesn't bruise easier to other people it always stands out horribly on his incredibly pale skin. Some say he looks like a ghost, but he thinks he looks like a vampire.
Aside from the fact that vampires always seem to wear cool clothes and he seems to be stuck with the hand me downs of other kids. For being a part of one the richest districts it certainly doesn't show in his patched and dirty clothes. At least he has clothes. Old jeans - made for a twelve year old, a patched shirt that was who knew how old, shoes that were pounded out long before he got them, and a jacket that did about as much to stop the cold as the ratty blanket they gave him at the orphanage.
Michael is an odd little boy.History:
He's the kid in the corner of the room, doing nothing more than watching everyone. There's no one in particular that he watches, just everyone in general. People are interesting creatures, what makes them feel happy, sad, angry, confused. That's what he's trying to figure out. Observation is something he loves to do, and often he is caught just staring openly. Creepy, the pale kid that stares at people, but that's okay - everyone knows he doesn't do anything more than stare.
At night he softly whispers wishes to find a home, something better than this smelly room with the other thirty kids with only a thin blanket to cover him. He never really had a home, and all he could ever want is a place to live. Ghost or vampire, he still needed love. Of course, being off in the corner just staring, he is always overlooked and it hurts him every time he doesn't seem to be noticed.
For someone who seems so comfortable to just be, to sit and stare and be viewed as creepy even while he has no intention of being so, he has trouble with self-image. He hates how different he is - none of the other kids are pale like him, or short like him. They all have friends and he's left with only the colour grey to comfort him. This may be the very reason why he seems as though he walked out of a black and white picture, all of the colour drained from him when he was given away and the love drained from him too.

He never knew his parents, they claimed he was a mistake and left him on the doorstep of the orphanage when he was barely two weeks old. He had been a healthy colourful baby until then. After that the colour seemed to drain out of him. It started with his eyes, and the kids around him marveled as they turned grey. When that happened he started to grow quieter, though still interacted with the others.
His hair darkened from brown to black just as his father's had even if he had never seen it. It was as though it was cast in an eternal shadow. As though this had changed him in more than just appearance he had drawn away from the others, staring to play by himself in his silent concentration. Adoptive parents came and went, picking the brighter kids that played loud and laughed with many colours while he was left on his own stacking blocks.
Then the colour in his skin faded with how little time he spent in the sun and he was left a pale remnant of the boy he could have been, making his transition complete. Now he no longer felt the drive to play and just began to watch. Even from the time this had started - around nine - he had then begun to wonder what being human really meant, and whether he was even human at all.
