Though punier as a child, Bryony has grown into himself and is of about average size for boys his age. He stands at about five foot eight, and that is likely as tall as he is going to get. His frame is still more slender than most of his peers however as he has not been required to work in the lumberyards or the forests as so many young men and women of District 7 are. His dark auburn hair is kept short, though it fades longer upon the top; he prefers to let his bangs brush across his forehead. Bryony has an angular face, and a smooth, fair complexion that runs in his family. Unlike his parent’s warm brown eyes, he inherited his grandmother’s cold, pale irises near the color of slate. His gaze is often described as cold and aloof, but that is probably due to his often “holier than though” expression.

His full, pouty lips are rarely caught in a smile, which is part of the reason his porcelain skin seems so flawless. He yields no signs of future crows feet or laugh-lines, as he has been this quiet, serious boy even in the earliest days of his youth. The biggest flaw one might be able to point out would be the dark circles that seem to permanently frame his light eyes from his incurable insomnia. Though it could be argued that this simply gave him a hauntingly beautiful appearance.

Coming from a line of merchant class families, Bryony is nearly always clean and pristine. His hair is always washed and perfectly soft. His hands are nearly perfectly smooth aside from the occasional scar or cut from mishandling a saw or tool in the family shop. His wouldn’t be caught dead in dirty clothing, and is often commented on as smelling of a mixture of fresh cotton and spring flowers. Though he would merely nod or mumble a quick thank you in response, he is justly proud of his cleanliness and well-groomed appearance.

Just like his eyes, Bryony has a tendency to come across as cold. That is not to say he is at all mean spirited, but he is quiet and distant. As a child his incessant night terrors and nightmares that affected his day-to-day life by instilling in him anxieties deeply rooted in his subconscious. After a childhood of being the “chicken” and the “scaredy-cat”, Bryony attempts to remain as calm and aloof as possible to shield himself from both appearing frightened or weak as well as to hide the shame of his peer’s teasing.

All of these attributes coupled with Bryony’s naturally soft spoken voice often leave his peers now claiming that he is stuck up and overly superior. Though he is neither of these things in truth, his status as a merchant class citizen and careful attendance to his appearance have landed him this label regardless. It’s in part his own fault however, as the childhood of tormented teasing him for problems outside of his control have left him quick to push everyone aside from his family away. And although he has a handful of people he would consider friends, they are still kept at arms length. The idea of even slightly trusting anyone outside of that small circle is practically as ludicrous as the notion that he could win the Hunger Games.

Despite the acknowledgement that he is physically beautiful, there is little else that Bryony holds any confidence in. His insecurities regarding his nightly terrors far outweigh anything he could ever find good within himself. Even his physical appearance in his eyes is outshined by the anxious twitch he has been burdened with since childhood as well. In truth, the happiest moments he has found of late are in life are in the evenings when his mother allows him to take small doses of morphling to help keep the nightmares at bay.

Bryony was around the three and a half year old mark when the nightmares became a permanent affliction. It had been the first year that he was conscious of what the Hunger Games were as he was forced to watch in the square with the rest of the District. Of course, this disturbed most children deeply, but the brutality of the killings had scarred Bryony somewhere internally and unleashed a series of nightmares that he could never escape. The nightmares soon developed into night terrors and beyond that, full blown anxiety disorders. It came to a point where the child refused to sleep. Once he was of school age, he would become so fatigued that he would occasionally pass out in the classroom only to awake screaming, or crying, or sometimes both. This made him an easy target for bullies right off the bat, and it certainly didn’t help that he had always been on the smaller side for his age.

Coming from the wealthier class of this middle District, the Greer family was able to afford various forms of therapy and medication for their youngest son. Nothing available seemed to work for long however and it became clear that the anxiety that Bryony suffered under would be something he had to live with. His family was always supportive though. His older brother was close in age, and aside from usual sibling bickering, the two had always been close as children. As they grew older though, Bryony could see the shame that lied under the brotherly love. Outside from home, he was an embarrassment, and still very young, that was a concept that he very much internalized alongside the many names he found himself referred to in his school day.

His life wasn’t entirely miserable though. There were other kids his age who underwent the same brutal teasing of mean spirited children, and they had found common ground and friendship in their mutual trials. Now emerging on the other end of the awkward preteen years, Bryony had grown into himself, no longer the smallest boy in class, and had found himself to have become one of the better looking boys of his year. Though some people still looked at him as a freak or a mental case (he still had the occasional nightmare in the middle of school), but there were a number of boys and girls who had at least toyed with the idea of him being something more. Of course, Bryony was quick to push anyone away who threatened to get too close for fear of further exposing his anxieties, especially those who had been among the playground bullies not more than a few years prior.

Most of his time these days is spent helping out in his parents' shop. They own a primary supplier of tools and equipment used by many of the local lumber yards to cut down and refine the trees of their District. Truthfully it's the place he feels safest and where he can most be himself, despite the frequency of customers that tend to set his anxiety on edge. This is where he will occasionally join in his brother's laughter and speak freely with his grandmother who also helps out. On the rarest of days and in the lightest of moods, one might even hear him humming as he sweeps the floors or stocks a shelf.
