Sweets for the Sweet! {WonkablitzPart2}

When the lights had turned back on I couldn't have been happier. I must have been splashing and sloshing in that delicious yet so scary eggnog river. I've never been so freaked out in my life! I've never felt so helpless. Like I couldn't get out no matter how much I flailed and clawed and kicked. Everyone had pale faces, scared faces. It took me another minute to realize that one of the avoxes had died. She's drowned. In the same river I and so many others had been freaking out in. The guilt and sadness was so immense. Why did I get to live and she didn't? It wasn't fair. I feel guilty for being alive. Is that a normal emotion when it comes to witnessing death? The death of a person I had talked to only minutes before. Seen walking around and making conversation only seconds ago. Now she never will.

Soaked in the wonderful smelling liquid I march up the stairs with the rest of the guests. I'm going to need so many baths. This will make me so sticky and gross. I just keep my head down. Staring at my feet taking step by step up the seeming endless flights of stairs. Then we finally reach a stop. I almost crash into the person standing in front of me. I look up and see that we have to cross a bridge. Who puts bridges in a candy factory? That seems an invalid question when you compare it with, "Who dies in a candy factory?" Nobody should, but it happened. Will I ever be able to eat another candy again?

As I step onto the bridge, a few ahead of me, I look ahead. Malissa is walking so close. Such a little distance ahead of me. I want to talk to her. But I can't. Not on a one-at-a-time rickety old bridge. So instead I march blindly on. I see a boy touch Malissa's arm. No way. No way on Earth! She was mine! I was flirting with her first! But then I see how he holds his jaw. The telltale sign of an avox. He is an avox. I almost laugh at my jealousy of an avox. One may have died, but they are avox's for a reason. I have a few, I like them, but they are servants. If one died, like the one down below, I would be sad, like I am now.

I just want to get to the next room.
