Levy Winston:

"What do you want to do to really make this month fun?" Vergil asked. Levy was a bit unsettled by the way he said those words. Something about them sounded...final. As if they were both going to be long gone when the Reaping happened a month from then. Levy knew what Vergil had probably intended to say, but he remained terrified nonetheless.

"Honestly, do we even have to do much different? Even though what we do now isn't much to most other people, it kind of means everything to me," he responded nonchalantly. As soon as he had said these words, that familiar anxious feeling built up in his stomach as he worried whether he was coming off too strongly somehow. Levy knew full well that Vergil wasn't the type to judge little things like that, but the fear always lingered the same way the smell of a blown-out candle would. He smiled anyways after he had said this, trying to reassure Vergil as much as possible.

Levy replied with "Honestly, do we even have to do much different? Even though what we do now isn't much to most other people, it kind of means everything to me,". It was true. The time we spent together now was, and always has been, my favorite time spent. I just wanted something that would last even after us. Just in case. Suddenly an idea struck me. I had this idea a while ago, but never got around to saying anything about it or acting on it.

"Why don't we decorate the attic somehow?" I asked. The question was just vague enough for Levy to have some kind of input on it. I first thought of it when I realized how dull the attic looked. The smallish room was left with a simple construction wood floor and was lit by a single cheap ceiling light bulb. It only had one tiny window that you could see out of if you stood on your toes. The walls looked the same as the boring floor. My original idea was that we make some kind of mural on the walls and possibly the floor. I wanted it to look like outside because outside was a place we hardly ever went except for when going from one place to another. This was the perfect way to combine the two.

"Why don't we decorate the attic somehow?" I asked. Levy thought for only about half a second before deciding that this was a really good idea. The attic, though it felt like a perfect place in the moments when they were there, could definitely use some work. It was an attic after all, not exactly designed to look nice and livable.

"Yeah, I like that. How do we wanna decorate it though? I feel like we should put something there that's gonna stay there even if something were to happen, something...permanent," he replied, stumbling over his words towards the end. Levy was thinking some kind of painting, but he held back that thought just in case Vergil would shoot down that idea.

He almost read my mind. His idea was almost exactly what I had in mind. He seemed to already have a clear cut idea in mind, so I wanted to hear what he had to say before I said anything about mine. I felt like mine was a little stupid anyways. "What exactly do you have in mind?" I asked with curiosity in my voice.

The main problem with my idea was the cost of it. Neither of us exactly had the money to spend on all the things we would need to make the attic look as fantastic as my imagination wanted it to be. I had enough money to live in comfort (as much comfort as middle class can allow you here) and be able to buy small things. Levy, on the other hand, came from a more rich family, but they don't seem like the kind of people he could actually get money from. We would have to either have to find a way to fund this or scrap the whole thing and come up with something else

He paused a moment before continuing, "I'm pretty sure there's no way we can get enough paint though, so this is probably stupid...What was your idea?"

It was crazy how in sync both of us were. I loved when we both just happened to have the same ideas or thoughts on something. It made things so much easier when it came to things like this. The money was the only issue with our idea.

"I actually had the same idea." i said. "I know you probably won't want to, but could you ask your parents for money?" I asked awkwardly. I hated asking for stuff that had monetary value from people. didn't have much to give so I knew I could never really pay them back.

      "I actually had the same idea," Vergil began, "I know you probably won't want to, but could you ask your parents for money?"

      Levy hesitated a moment before answering, contemplating a response that wouldn't be too disappointing. His parents would definitely not just give him money for no good reason. They might agree to it if he agreed to wear something girlier for a few days, but the emotional trauma that would cause was not quite worth it. Though, this was important to Vergil, so if this is what he really wanted, Levy would do practically anything.

      "Well...I can try. If it doesn't work, I know where they keep cash they save for things, and they probably wouldn't miss some of it much. This is so risky though, even trying to ask them. You know how much they completely terrify me. But it's for us, so I'm gonna try," Levy responded, speaking slowly and carefully, miraculously managing not to stutter. His hands were shaking again. Levy chose the words of his last sentence being very aware of the meaning behind them. He didn't simply say "for you", but "for us." He and Vergil were practically one. It was the sort of friendship most people will never get to experience.

You know how much they completely terrify me. But it's for us, so I'm gonna try," Levy replied looking very nervous afterwards. I absolutely hated how much I was asking of him. I wished we could live somewhere where money came around easier. All we wanted to do was paint. It wasn't too much to ask for, but because of the stupid system we lived in, we had to risk things to do it.

"I hope this all works out alright. I just wish I could do more to help." I said feeling useless again. I really didn't like putting him into this position, but once I made the suggestion, I knew he wouldn't stop trying to get the money. I didn't know anyone who was more ambitious when their mind was set on something. I didn't want anything bad to happen to him because of what i suggested but it was out of my hands the moment I said something about it.

"I hope this all works out alright. I just wish I could do more to help," replied Vergil, looking worried. Levy immediately started thinking of how he could reassure him that he really didn't mind helping and that he was worth the help. "Don't worry about it, I'll take care of it somehow, I always do," Levy responded.

There was a moment of silence, as if the two boys were trying to telepathically decide whose turn it was to comfort the other. "I know you're worried something's gonna happen, and maybe something will, but we always end up okay, and I'm completely okay with something happening if it means helping you," he said with a smile, a real one this time.

"Don't worry about it, I'll take care of it somehow, I always do," Levy said. Although not entirely convincing, this helped me not feel as bad as I did before. I showed a slight smile. I didn't really have anything to say to that though, so I stayed awkwardly quiet. I usually hated silence with people, but I was indifferent about it when I was with him. The silence was broken when Levy said "I know you're worried something's gonna happen, and maybe something will, but we always end up okay, and I'm completely okay with something happening if it means helping you,". For once, I had a positive outlook on the near future. Things were finally starting to look like they were getting better. I couldn't think of anything that could match what Levy had just said, so I left the rest of the walk to a closed end with those perfect words.
