Playing with fire 2 (all the good peops)

What or better who I walked in on in the kitchen is far from what I'd been hoping for and in one swift motion all my good mood is gone and the smile fades from my face.

Her father stands there with a cup of coffee and the pot in his hand and an icy stare on his old features when he lays eyes upon me. I've never felt as unwelcome anywhere within the blink of an eye.
"What are you doing in my house, boy? Enjoying time with my daughter?" is this an accusation or is he trying to make conversation.
I remain silent except for a "Morning, sir."
He offers a cup of coffee but for some reason I don't want any any more so I just lift my hand and state. "No, thanks."

The way he speaks to Ky about me not being allowed to come around is so cold it gives me goosebumps and a certain amount of hatred on my side. She doesn't deserve this coldness or being talk to like that. Can't he see that?
I hold back though and try to hide every emotion that might be running through me right now.

Only when she explains that we're 'kind of together' do I shoot her a quick glance. So she hasn't even told him we're a couple? Now it's her hiding our relationship after what...9 months or so?

I listen to their conversation about a woman named Helena, which must be her fathers new girl friend and how Ky is squirming to get out of this or at least talk to him before the woman arrives.

By the end of their talk my jaw is clenched because that's the only way for meto shut up when my girl friend...kind of girl friend...shoes me into the other room. I want to scream at her that this is madness and she can't tell this man about the big news but all I do is reach for her hand behind my back and let her walk me over until we're all seated at a large dining table in the living room.

I have a very hard time showing this man any respect whatsoever but I still try.
"Sir. I think we got of to a wrong start. I apologize if I offended you. But your daughter and I..." I look at her to find the right words which never come because I'm simply not good with talking and interactingwith people.
"...we've been together for about 9 months. I respect her.I hope you accept that."
If not...screw you!

Yeah, maybe to spill the beans that we've been dating for months without his knowledeg wasn't clever. I though he knew though and Kyanite says the same thing so maybe he was just in denial.

The way he talks to her and calls her a waste of time makes me sick to my stomach though. I mean my own father had not so pleasant words for me when he found out about the pregnancy. I doubt he's as heartless as this man. Maybe there's a pattern here. maybe Ky fell for me because this same sort of heartlessness I put on display felt familiar. I'd like to think I changed though...she changed me.

"Kyanite. You are to stay here. Matthew, you - on the other hand, can go. The rule in this household is no relationships until after the reaping. You know why that is? Because distractions can get you killed."

I know Ky wants me to leave so I get up but I cast a glance at her asking for her permission to say something.
I feel I need to but I need to choose my words wisely in order not to piss her dad off more.
"I'm not a distraction, Mr. Ruze. I'm a supporter. I've trained with her and I'm there for her every step of the way, just like she is." I'm tempted to stress that I was there when Jins was taken down but who knows what that will provoke.
"I think your daughter deserves to be loved and cherished no matter how far she got in the pregames and no matter what happens in the reapings by me and by YOU. I think I can be much more than a distraction to herif you let me."
Wow, that sounded very mature and notlike me at all.Maybe I've learned something more from my tutor than I thought.
My hand finds hers hoping that her father won't kick me out like he did before.

My words however well chosen are completely lost on her father. Did he even any of them? Does he care? I doubt it. He seems rather thick! The only thing he cares about are his rules and her obedience. No love, no respect. It's just like at the academy here only that Ky didn't get to choose whether she wants to be part of it or not.

I see her pale when her fathers face stays grim. What a bastard, can't he see what she needs rather than what he wants? is this what fathers do when their daugthers become reaping age? Will I be that grim bastard who screams for obedience?

Of course he doesn't care about her love for me...she's just a teenager. It will pass. If only he know though.

My heart skips a beat when she damn near spills the beans because this is clearly not the right moment. maybe she should really do it alone but then I wouldn't be able to protect her and judging by the glare in his eyes and his advancing she needs it.

This become serious when she backs into me clearly afraid of her own father so I have no choice but to step in front of her and shake my head at the man.
"Kyanite needs your love, not your restrictions." I try once more to talk sense into him but my fists are already balling at my sides. If he tries to lay a hand on her I will flatten him out.

Harsh words and a biting tone. That's the only thing coming from my father. He's completely ignoring Matthew as he did the last time, being more than concerned for me the last time this type of interaction occured. I can only hope that nothing will happen, but there's some form of instinct in me, something maternal, that suddenly has me retreating backwards and into Matthew. It alarms him, I can tell, because as much as we're together, he can somehow tell when I'm uncomfortable. Then again, with my father's tone, it should just be a natural reaction for Matthew to want to break things up and interviene.

The words 'Get out' play in my head. At first, I'm wondering if it was meant for Matthew to pushed out of the house, but a second reply in my mind is telling me that he understands what that 'thing' is that I was talking about. The words to express what's going on isnt' needed and clearly, he's wanting to take matter into his own hands. Just like that, my vision of my own father is blocked by Matthew's body and the adrenaline coursing through my veins has started to pick up, making my heartrate quicken and my fingers shake. I never thought my father would advance on me like that. Nor would he, right now, advance on my boyfriend as I move to the side just a little bit to see what's going on. The only thing registering in my head is to get in between them, but something is holding me back.

"Kyanite needs your love, not your restrictions." Please... don't antagonize him, Matthew. Don't piss him off any more...

"My love? What are you, some poetic riffraff? Get out of my way, Mr. Dunham, or I'll call the peacekeepers on you. You don't belong in MY HOUSE. You don't belong to MY DAUGHTER. I said... get the FUCK OUT OF MY HOUSE." His voice raises to an alarming rate, and from one moment to the next, I watch as his fist swings first and a force is being pushed against me.

Clearly, the morning between the two cadets away from the academy would best be descibed to be doing something that they weren't suppose to. No different from when they were caught in the bedroom of the dark haired man at the academy. With lip locks and touches, it's not suppose to be a place to be interrupted. It is, his own personal bedroom. His own private space that isn't shared with others. Yet like so many times before, the interactions between the two seem to get only so far before something always seems to happen. At first, the noises doens't even register with Jeran. His mind completely occupied with the beauty that lays with him. The connection between the two that's forming a little more than friendship but not getting all the way.

Then just like that, something makes Vy stop and force herself away from his lips. A dumbfounded Jeran is left in the wake for moments when the yelling finally registers in his head. Afterall, being a guy, clearing his mind after something like this would be hard, but the moment that Vy's reacting, he is as well. It's almost like a training session for the academy. His body is suddenly being put on alert to a dangerous situation, but his first questin is why Vy is so motivated to getting dressed as fast as possible to go find out what it is that is going on downstairs?

"Shit, I'm supposed to be making sure nothing happens."

With only pants to be pushed up on each leg, and a random shirt placed over her top portion, he follows Vy's example, reaching for his own pair of pants, but his shirt is no where in sight. An exaggerated sigh escapes his mouth as he tries to come off the high of their nearly 'there' situation. For the moment that she slips out the door, Jeran's need to follow overtakes the need to put on another shirt. Instead, he's out in the hallway as quick as lightning, following Vy as if this was some little stalking mission. The tones that he hears in the living room suddenly has him on full alert yet again. This time, the voices of his sister and father is mixed in.

"Damnit dad... just leave Ky alone." He whispers, from behind Vy. That's when he notices that she's wearing his shirt. Passing it off, it doesn't even interest him as he keeps his position and listens from afar. Another moment, there's this glance from Vy, a smile, that distracts Jeran from the now just long enough that something happens right after that. At first it was something like a sudden gasp or something like a scream. With his hand on Vy, he practically pushes her in.

"Go!" He demands but before he can even take another step out in the open, he's retreating back, and picking up the phone for backup.

In another reality everything would be fine. Kind words and conversation would come from the living-room, and Jeran & Vy could have no worry to go back to what they were doing. That's not their life though, none of theirs. Nothing can be that easy, and these two may never be failed in getting a interruption at the best of times. If only that was the most of their concern as the tones, and whatever's going on in there, quickly escalates. In seconds it goes from jokes about being a poetic riffraff to the threats of involving the peacekeepers and curses to leave his household. Guess it is a good thing that Vy decided her presents here just might come in handy today and showed up.

What occurs next is unmistakable, even with only the sounds telling them so. That all too familiar noises of knuckles meeting skin, bodies colliding in some way, and gasps of shock. Someone's been hit. And as much as Vy wants to assume Matthew's gone as hardcore as her and hit Ky's old man, she knows that's far fetched. Probably should of really listened to Kyanite's warning of how intense her father could be. Doesn't everyone over exaggerate when it comes to their parents though? Obviously not as Mr. Ruze has managed to heighten all of this so suddenly, even more so then how his daughter explained. Oh boy.

Well that's Vy cue, as hands even encourage her with a gentle push. Looks like Jeran knows her role, good. Sort of makes him a ton more attractive...if that's even possible. There's no way in hell she's allowing for any more violence towards her friends, not if she can help it. Using the element of surprise to her benefit as everyone's very consumed in what's going on. With one swift movement she wraps her arms around Mr. Ruze's elbows, intentions fully on holding him back from doing anything else. "I think it's time to calm down now." She orders as if she never left the academy, sarcastic voice and all. Clenching her fingers together to try to keep his arms behind him. Jeran better be getting backup since he's not providing any right now.

The punch surprised me to no end. I didn't think her father would go that far. All the more the rage I feel towards the future grand father of my child. Did he even understand what Kyanite hinted at? Or was he just flying off the handle because I'm here and he wanst me gone? Who knows.

He tries to come at me again but the smaller girl behind me pushes her way next to me to talk some sense into him. She's probably trying to prevent me from hitting back but she doesn't have to because some blonde jumps him from the back and holds him until he stumbles backward and lands on her.

My eyes almost pop out when I see who it is. No other than Vy. How did she get here and why? Did Ky ask her to come or was she the one I heard talking to Jeran and where the hell is he when his sister needs him?

I keep standing where I am doing everything I can not to throw myself at the man, who just gave me a shiner but then he struggles and pushes and screams against the girls. Apparently he won't stop at anything or anyone. Is this where I should man up and act like the peace keeper I want to be? Defend the weak, put the bad ones in their place? Or do I still have to hold back in order to save my girl friend from troubles?

Vy is thrown back with an elbow against her, catches a back hand and then he pushes his daughter so hard that she falls against a oak cabinet with her head.
Oh crap! My eyes widen in horror and I gasp before I bend down to help her after warning him not to get any closer. "Get away from her."

Worried eyes search her for injuries. Grab her to hold her while she's down on the ground. She looks dazed and her eyes take a moment to settle on my face.
"Are you okay? Kyanite? Did you hit your head?"
When I bring back my hand from behind her head there's a slight trace of blood on it. So I cringe and yell at Vy.
"Call an ambulance...and the pks. Call O'Rourke!"

That's when I protectively position myself in front of my girl friend and look at Vy who looks very pissed off.
