DECATHLON: HIGH JUMP

Welcome to the Decathlon tournament of the second Panem Olympic Games! The track and field complex is located within the Olympic Arena, with stands for spectators traveling from Districts One, Two, Four, and the Capitol to watch the competitors. Television cameras are set up around as well, to broadcast the event to anyone staying home as well as to the other districts who aren't as lucky and competent as you all! Please be sure you stretch and warm up with your coaches before you're called to the starting block, and remember, make your district proud!

The execution of this event is somewhat more difficult than the other events. Feel free to roleplay your character making their jumps, warming up, etc as you would normally. However, instead of pasting a single code in once, you will be pasting different codes in for success/failure at different heights. You will have three chances to clear each height.

Everyone clears the 1.50m jump automatically. You get three tries to clear each following jump, with the odds getting worse for success each time. You will need to edit your post each time for multiple jumps / to add the next jump. BE SURE TO LABEL YOUR JUMPS. Here are the odds:

After everyone has rolled, feel free to edit your post with your character's reaction if you so desire, but please keep it to one post rather than multiple.

There is NO POSTING ORDER; you may post your shots whenever you please. Keep in mind that this event must be wrapped up by the end of the Olympics Day.

District 4, the land of raging riptides and gritty shores, I observe it quietly as I loosen with my coach. He is drilling me on how to approach this particular event of the decathlon, but I'm lost as I watch a seagull swoop in and out of my vision. I imagine myself flying away from these games, perhaps to a world where my family has not forced me to participate in these Olympic Games. My parents made it clear that it was not a choice, this was to be my chance to reclaim the glory to my family. So I joined these games without a single complaint. The fight has long left my body, I instead accept what my family demands and try not sound like the retard I am.

In the corner of my eye I see the sister of the 67th male tribute fail to clear the 1.55m bar. I briefly wonder if her depth perception is off because of her missing eye. As this thought dances through my mind, the coach slaps me to get my attention. I quickly return my gaze to him, and nod along to his pep talk like I've been trained to do. Once again my eyes wonder to the grey bird swooping behind him. My mind jumbles, and with a start I realize it's already my turn to approach the high jump.

I turn to the bar between the beatings of my family and glory. Taking a running start I launch myself up, and quickly pull my legs up towards my chest. With a thud I have passed the 1.5m jump. A smile fights its way to my lips; I push it down, trying to keep my face from displaying any emotion. I jog back to start and watch the bar set to a 1.55m height. I shake my hands and begin to run, muscles starting to burn.

My feet leave the track, blue sneakers pushing themselves through the air as I turn towards the mat. My foot appears to be on the track to hit the bar, but I yank it up and enjoy the feeling of temporary weightlessness. A smack against the ground pulls me back down from my mind and I've cleared the 1.55m.

I walk back to the start, slightly jittery as I watch the bar set to 1.60m. I pull my dark hair back into the signature slicked-back look. I sigh, knowing I need to keep on pushing myself. I jump up and down, then push myself towards the three poles that decide my fate.

Milo didn't enter the Olympics just because it was the cool thing to do. She entered because she was determined to win, to give herself an even better reputation than she had before. Of course she was the crowning jewel of her family, but that never stopped her from craving more, more, more. She was going to bring hope that gold medal even if it meant she had to kill somebody else to get it.

Of course the entire family decided to join her for the week. Including her unfortunate cousin Phyneas Pine, who was bout to learn what it meant to be beat by a girl.

She grave her most graceful grin to the audience as she prepared to make her jump. Milo had a good feeling about this event...

Another stupid test, another stupid game. Must this continue. I understand that I signed up for something called a Decathlon, but it should have been obvious to all by this point that I am superior to the rest and I should be able to watch as these fools struggle whilst I am handed the gold. It's it blatantly obvious? It seems not, so I must make it so. These small jumps they place in my way are nothing, I have scaled higher walls. Silly, it's all silly. But if I must do this then I shall. I can not let it be said that I was beaten.

Circe stood alone at the edge of the track, her blonde hair perfectly pinned into a sock bun. She'd kept her makeup light, tasteful. Just enough to accent her eyes, not enough to run into them in the event that she broke a sweat. Not that she would. She was above such pedestrian concerns. Still, she didn't want to put all of the other competitors to shame. Some were downright shabby. To stand next them was to feel like a god. That was a pedestal she would have once risen to, risen above. But those years had passed with the death of a golden-haired boy.

And now all she had was a sock bun and the drive to conquer. To put his name back into the mouths of Panem.

The only reason I signed up for this stupid thing is because my adopted 'mother' is a frigid bitch who insists on her horrible children chasing valor in every aspect of their miserable lives. It isn't enough for her that I am engaged to a hunk of cold metal, I have to attempt to jump over a piece of it as well. It's fine for me, to do something like this but at the same time the last thing I want is to fail when Nero Grimm might be watching. If she hadn't insisted on my sign up to the Olympics I would have done so anyway. I cannot lie to myself, competition runs in my veins, hooked onto my blood. I love events like these.

I stand straight and not so tall, due to my shorter stature. My hands are in fists at my sides and the iciness that has long been a key part of my morning dress is in place behind my irises. For all the world I take the part of a warrior queen, a career. I couldn't care less about what label they give me, as long as it is not one of a failure.

When it is my time to do my first jump I dig into the dirt for a brief moment, squinting into the sunlight, feeling the strength in my legs, loving the determination melting like a sweet underneath my tongue. I take off, flying along the grass, body low to the ground and I realize that this is it. This is why I train, why I fight. It isn't for the games at all, neither is it for the revenge I want so horribly but for the thrill of it, the feeling of power that comes along with it. It is for the flight.

I push off the ground, twisting my body to clear the bar of metal and go soaring over the short height like a bird in flight and it feels incredible, like I am weightless for all of a few seconds. I land then, with a thud on the blue mat and roll off of it to my feet in an easy motion.

As I run up to my next jump with the bar only centimeters higher, I stumble forwards, foot going into an indent in the ground and find that my balance has been thrown off completely. I could have continued running and come back around for another attempt but my body, practiced and ready takes the jump anyhow and my foot catches on the pole, sending it down on top of me, smacking me in the shin.

I have failed.

All the excitement from the day so far has got me trembling. Trembling from the adrenaline of having so many people watch my every move, whether I'm jumping or running or whatever. How people find entertainment in this mediocrity is beyond me. My task here is to throw myself as high as I can, clearing bar after bar as they're raised higher and higher. My mind floats back to the day I left my home to travel to district four. Mom came to see me off, with only a few words of meaningless encouragement to be the best. "You better bring home something," she had said. My father didn't even bother to show up and say goodbye. Part of me wants to purposely lose just to piss them off. But my pride and ego is way too big for that. No matter how much satisfaction it would bring me to be everything my parents don't want me to be, I love winning too much. I love winning miles more than I hate them. But they built me, I suppose. They built me to be this... emotionless machine. A machine that just fulfills its objectives. A machine that doesn't take no for an answer. Although I have the worst distaste for my parents, they raised me in such a way that I somehow do their bidding, even when I don't want to. They want me to win. I don't want to do what they say. But I want to win for myself. So in turn, I end up doing what they say anyway.

I shake the thoughts clear out of my mind as my name is called. It's my turn to throw myself around for other's amusement. Despite my thoughts on that, I still think a gold medal would look damn good draped around my neck. I didn't do so hot in some of the other decathlon events so this is where I need to prove myself. I'm going to fly high, over each and every bar until gravity won't let me anymore. I'm going to fly. For no one else but me.
