Name: Petra Vipointe
Age: 15
Gender: Female
District/Area: D12
Codeword: Odair
Played by: Caroline Corinth
Appearance:
Locks of a light shade of brown are the first thing most people tend to notice about Petra. It is recognisable throughout her siblings, with all three of them having similar shades of hair. Her hair falls subtly, leaving small waves in its once path as it fits comfortably around her chiseled face. At the ends of her gentle waves lie split ends. Her mother has been pestering her to get her hair cut, but Petra is not sure how those will react to her having a few inches off.
The hollowness of Petra's face casts shadows beneath her eyes, making them look somewhat sunken. However, the blue in her eyes bring her face alive, making her seem like an old friend who has some joyous news to deliver. Her father has the same eyes. He had always hoped that one of his children would inherit the sharp azure of his eye, and was delighted when little Petra opened her eyes for the first time, revealing her green crystals. Petra's brothers have their mother's eyes, a warm and welcoming brown. Petra always compares it to the brown seen smeared across the walls in the local bakery, but her brothers claimed the colour wasn't so "muddy".
She stands daintily and delicate at 5'5", a thin frame which reflects the amount of food that she eats. Her parents bring home enough food to feed all five of them, but her brothers devour the majority of the food before it reaches Petra's end of the table. It isn't like she'd take a lot anyway. She picks at what food she gets, inspecting it thoroughly before giving it the "all clear". Her appetite is usually gone by the time her mother calls her for dinner, so her feeling of hungriness has disappeared. Her father would always bring shame to her for not eating what is put in front of her. He'd always be so proud of his sons for clearing their plates in such little time, but when it came to Petra, he would look disappointed in her, as if he thought she did not approve of the meal. Because of this, Petra keeps a slim figure at around 90lbs.
Personality:
Petra is a usually friendly person, cracking a joke and smile whenever she can. She only has a few close friends, but she does not see them often as they are working with their parents. This has led to Petra becoming closer and closer to her brothers. She loves them both dearly and feels protected and has a sense of security when around them. They tend to get on well, until Gus makes a comment about how stupid Petra's contributions to the conversation are. Her mind tends to wander from the chat, drifting away from the topic at hand and moving to something completely irrelevant. Her brothers used to find it funny whenever she came our with a bizarre comment, but now they are beginning to think she does it for attention. Of course, she does not and Petra has tried to explain but them, but has given up.
She is an avid learner, and one of the highest grading students in her class. Her wandering mind can only be controlled when she is actively learning. She finds it exceptionally interesting that there is so much to learn in the world, and because of this she spends a lot of time studying and reflecting upon her recent school lessons, thinking about what is presented to her. She is a thinker, but a reasonably shy one around large amounts of people. One of her less fond memories is raising her hand in class, questioning to trustworthiness of another girls answer. It started an argument between the two girls and they were taken outside the classroom and told to calm down. Petra hated this, the disapproving looks of her fellow classmates just because she was a suspicious girl who wanted to know all there is to know.
Despite this argument, Petra is a sweet and polite girl who does her very best to make a good impression on others. She shows good communication skills to strangers and will always give friends and family a helping hand when needed. One of the things she loved to help her mother with was crafts. As a young child, Petra found cooking absolutely fascinating and has since shown a keen interest in learning the art from her mother. She likes to invent her on recipes, ignoring whether they taste good or not. Petra just likes to be creative and discover new and unique combinations of ingredients to cook with.
History:
Born on a dull day in September, Petra was the third addition to the Vipointe family, making her the youngest. She was born in the home that she would most likely live her life and die in. The whole of the family was gathered around the new baby, all throwing smiles and gazes in admiration of the girl. After the cord was cut, Petra was taken into her mother's arms and was cradled softly until she stopped crying and smiled a toothless smile.
Petra grew up quickly and began to develop traits which are still seen in her now. She always wanted to help and would ask anyone and everyone if they needed it. She would help her mother with the cooking, going out with her to buy the little ingredients they could afford together. Her father was not home that often, he was a miner and worked long and tedious hours which all three of the Vipointe child hated. Whenever their father did come home to their dreary shack, the family would stay up to greet him with a comforting soup made up of the leftover ingredients from breakfast and lunch. It was a simple recipe which had been passed through generations, but it always gave a feel of happiness whenever it was made.
The first time Petra went to the reaping as a candidate is a firm memory in her head. Her mind was racing, confusion and worry took a hold of her and she started to cry as she lined up with the other girls. Her name was only in there once, so her parents knew that the chance of her being reaped was very, very slim. The names were called and Petra did not recognise them. After the crowd of children had been dismissed, the family took part in a warming hug. Petra did not like the idea of the Hunger Games and felt sick when the names of the tributes were called. She could only hope this would not happen to her one day.
When Petra turned 14, her dying grandmother gave her a kitten. She was astonished, she was so elated to have such a cute little creature in her hands and be able to cradle it like her own child. She vowed to her grandmother to treasure the cat and always feed and treat it correctly. Within a few days of getting the kitten, Petra named her Fox. This was because Petra believed her markings to resemble those seen on a fox, and so she decided to name the cat appropriately. One day, the poor kitten went missing. Petra wanted to have Fox back so bad so she set out from her tiny abode and went to look for her. She looked for hours in her district, looking high and low in hopes of finding the cat, but there was no sign of her. Petra felt upset. She went back to her home and climbed the tall tree outside and sat on one of the branches, gently crying to herself. She was up there for a few hours, before her family finally convinced her to come down.
At the age of 15, Petra knew very well that her chances of being reaped for the games was increasing. She hated the idea of having to think what it would be like to fight people her age until there was one final winner. She would lie awake at night thinking about the consequences if her name was picked out of the glass bowl. She knew she wouldn't make it five minutes in the games, she knows that she would be seen as an easy target due to her weak body. She couldn't bare to think that she would have to put on a sickly smile for the Capitol if she was reaped. Remain such a calm and collected approach to interviews, if she was reaped. All this did come with the "if", but that "if" is enough for any mind to evoke thoughts that shouldn't be thought.
