It's just another war just another family tornFor the first time since Ares and Hannah died, I decided to stand in the district square and watch the games. From the time of the reaping, I've had my eyes set on Mason Hammerfell. He's a huge brutal career, one that deserves the chance of bringing honor back to the district. He deserves it more than Apollo - he would kill me for even thinking that, but he has no idea what I'm doing. None whatsoever. I watched the way he moved towards the stage. His head held high as he moved around. Brute strength. I believed I've watched him at the training academy a few times sparing with people. He's amazing. Amazing at fighting, and I know he's more than capable of doing this.
When I saw the number eleven flash across the screen next to his name, my hopes only grew larger with every passing second. I would love to see Apollo get a score of an eleven. Apollo would fail horribly. He wouldn't make anything happen. It was from that moment I watched him with every passing second. As many times I could, he's been the one tribute I've focused on.
During the bloodbath, he ran away with only his weapon, but everyone knows what happens. He ran after the girl from one crushed a skull with her bare hands. He ran before the blood was flowing, and I probably would've done the same thing. Running away while I still had the chance before everyone ganged up on me like they did Hedvig. It broke my heart whenever she fell towards the ground staining the white snow red. Her blood rained against the ground, and the fighting carried on. She died. Hedvig volunteered for the games, and now she's gone, leaving Mason as the only hope for District two.
After the bloodbath, I watched as his alliance jumped another smaller alliance. I watched as he fought throwing those axes, and for a moment I felt like he was a Birch. He could've been a twin brother to Ares with how he's fighting. Not to mention after that fight they ended up facing a mutt. A mutt I've seen so many times before during the games, and he killed it. He snapped it's neck like it was nothing, but it was weakened, yet Mason took on the mutt like it was nothing. It could've still killed him, however, his strength was no match for it.
Even after that fight, he was moving around. He had no wounds, no nothing. He was doing amazing. He was fighting. He was staying on top of his game - I can only imagine how hard that would be if I was there. Apollo's said it many times, and I probably would be Hedvig. I probably would die in the bloodbath, but Mason gives me hope. He allows me to know that it's not all about the risk of getting items. It's about surviving. Surviving is the skill that's most needed in the games. It's one that everyone needs in order to live, yet when I saw the face of Hedvig flying through the sky in the anthem, I wasn't sure what to do. I couldn't run to her family because I don't know them, and I'm sure nobody cares what I had to say anyway. I shrugged my shoulders before I went home for the night.
I was back in the square the moment the sun rose high into the sky. I waited and waited until the camera was back on Mason and the three others fighting some strange mutt I've never seen before. I watched as Mason attacked. I watched as one of the mutts feel, but it rose back to life. I watched as Mason threw an axe at the mutt that just came back to life, and he killed it. Two mutts dead because of him. Two mutts. It wasn't a human, yet, but I expect great things from him.
I remember when Ares was going through the games. Ares was a fighter. He was strong, and brave. The weeds couldn't hold him down whenever the gamemakers tried to stop him. The guy from one saved him. He made sure he survived the day. I watched as Ares went through severing the limbs of people. He was fighting with all the strength he had, and I watched as he turned on his ally. The one who left. Betrayal was the worse thing ever, but Ares had a reason. The guy from one walked away. He left him behind, and I know Ares. A hot temper. I knew what would happen, but I never expected the sword to jab into the eye with such a force. And a few days after that, Ares turned on his one last allow.
Ares was cocky. He thought he was better than everyone, and that got him killed. He died the death that nobody deserved. I had my hopes up. I thought he would return home because he was getting closer with every passing second, but it was wiped away. Mason is similiar to Ares in that way. I can see Mason getting too cocky especially when the games are coming to fewer and fewer tributes. Hopefully he learned from the mistakes of the past careers. Maybe it would make sure that district two received a victor they deserved. Every career deserves the chance to bring home the title. To show the world that we are the best.
I want to be like them.
I want to be strong and brave like Ares, and I want to be a brute like Mason. I know the only way to do that is train. To show Apollo that I'm someone he shouldn't fuck with because in the end he'll be the one hurting. He'll be the one messing up with life every single day. Maybe I can learn from the mistakes of the past careers. I can learn from Ares, and not allow myself to be cocky. I can learn from Mason. I can go to the academy and lift weights buffing my arms up so one day I'll have the chance to snap the necks of mutts with ease. I want the score of an eleven flashing by my name whenever the chance is given to me.
One day I'll volunteer for the games. I'll show Apollo what I'm capable of.
I'll make sure Ares name lives on. I'll make sure every person who's passed away due to the games is never forgotten.
Maybe one day I can be Ares and Mason combined.
