Chenille Moretti

Haunted sorrowful eyes, which used to be lively in youth, are the first thing you notice on Chenille’s face; the iris’ being the colour of hazel. Pale skin on her face, never to see the light of day, matted with a few freckles here and there. Beaming lips spread the fake smile across her face, a few cracks and peeling skin on them. Her hair of a brown colour, which falls past her breast, split-ends tackle the bottom of it.

Having a lack of physical labour Chenille is relatively weak, thin bony long arms, covered in cuts and blisters. Scar infested legs, old childhood injuries from when she played with her sister. Most notably her knees, forever the colour purple, due to the numerous attacks of the earth. Being skinny, Chenille just weighs in at eight stone and three pounds, due to the lack of three square meals a day. Being quite an exceptional height for her gender, she is five feet and eleven inches tall, which makes her look like a lanky matchstick.

Clothing comes with a hefty price when you’ve no money. Chenille salvages a few disused materials and creates her own, for herself and her sister. Her most notable piece of clothing is her cream beanie hat, which she inherited from her mother, before her death. Paisley gave her the hat when she was 9, it was too big for Chenille at first but she soon grew into it. As well as inheriting a hat from her mother, she inherited her eyesight. A weak case of shortsightedness, Chenille finds it hard to see things from a far, especially seeing people’s faces clearly.

Screaming echoed from the Moretti’s home, Chenille and Lace looked at each other in confusion, as they were returning home from school. Running into the house, that’s when they faced the terror. Blood everywhere, their mother in labour, there was something wrong, where was their father he should be here. Chenille sent Lace off to find a medic in the district, as she stayed with her mother on the kitchen floor, clasping onto her hand.

Where was father? He should be here…

Chenille is a relatively chilled girl; she enjoys work and keeping her mind busy. Forever reading different genres of books, she likes to fill her brain with information and stories. Forever daydreaming of a fantasy world, where her and her sister are happy, alongside her parents. Skilled in her work, Chenille takes pride in whatever she does, always pushing herself to get things done. Always smiling, being happy…

“Mum calm down, I am here, Lace is getting help.”

Paisley Moretti was slumped against the cupboards in the kitchen, covered in bodily fluids and blood. Her face as red as the sun, as the sweat dripped down her brow, crying, she clasped hold of her daughters hand, the child inside of her trying to escape.

It shouldn’t be happening, it’s too early.

As well as being the grafter, Chenille can be very protective other her sister Lace. Forever looking out for her, rarely leaving her side. Taking to the big sister roll very well, she enjoys entertaining her little sister. As well as loving the company of her sister, Chenille likes to around a lot of people, she hates being a lone…

It happened too quickly.

The tightness of Paisleys grip on Chenille’s hand grew loose, as the baby entered the world. Both of them laid lifeless, not a motion or sound from either soul. Shaking her mother, there was no response, not from the baby either. Paisley body, coated in blood and sweat, with the newborn by her side, the screams, the crys…

It’s just a dream Chenille.

After witnessing the death of her mother at the age of 12, it stuck with her for life. Waking in the night regularly, after seeing the scene going over and over and over in her dreams. Whenever she thinks about it, she just sees her mother’s face, hears the screams, the blood, the still new-born baby. Chenille blames her father for it, he was meant to be with her at home that day, except he was out with friends, she still doesn’t know what he was doing.

Growing a great hatred for her father, Chenille lost trust in any man and is frightened to ever have a child herself. As well as the night terrors, Chenille suffers from social anxiety especially around men, she doesn’t want to befriend a man, or ever get close to one. She fears the possibility she may fall in love with one and get impregnated. Putting on a smile, especially in front of her sister, she tries to hide her sorrow, even when she gets flashbacks of that day.

At the age of 3, Chenille's true best friend was born, her little sister Lace. Helping her with the ropes of growing up, the two never left each other's side. Throughout school life, Chenille was 'ok' at her work, at times she struggled, and other times she succeeded. Having a little group of friends in her class, Chenille was a happy girl.

The day it happened, her father Mesh, had arrived home an hour later; the medic already being their forty minutes earlier. He just broke down, that is when he changed. Following the stillbirth and death of his wife, Chenille rarely saw eye to eye with her father. Being out of the house all the time, Chenille was left with the job of bringing up Lace. Working around the house, as well as in the sweatshop to earn money, Chenille just grafted all day long.

The stillborn child was a girl, Chenille named her Velvet, her father didn't care. Paisley and Velvet were buried together, both their names on the tombstone.

Chenille to this day stitches together various pieces of clothing in a sweatshop, while her sister is still in schooling. Her father still works however, helping produce wool. On occasion the family still do sit together for dinner, but when the rare occasion comes, the room is usually silent.
