The La Torre girl never spent much time studying fire making or hiding as a means of survival. From the beginning she was taught that a reputation made for better armor than any shield, so when she stopped at the camouflage station twenty minutes ago, it wasn't with intentions of usefulness. At first the instructor seemed thrilled to have what he assumed to be a Career as a student, all too used to an audience of struggling lower District Tributes. Realization set in quickly, however, that Gunner was only interested in toying around with the paints and pigments, laughing shamelessly while blowing brightly colored dust at anyone walking by. Left to her own devices, by the time the distractingly pretty blonde from Six catches Gunner's attention, her face is an abstract quilt of yellow, pink, red, blue, green. It only looks half as strange as it should on a girl who has lived her life in neon, making sure every lowlife back in Four knew her name like electric fear buried in their bones. The instructor glances at her as if she's a grand failure, but Gunner knows better. It's as if her skin is steel beneath the brightness. "War paint," she says with a grin, jumping up to swipe a little bit of vibrant rebellion across Gabrielle O'Dale's cheeks. The purple is as dangerously volatile on such pale skin as the grin of the girl who put it there. It makes them both look infamously alive. |
