In the light of the day
You can hear the old ones say
Was the sound last night the wind?
Can you feel the change begin?

In my wolf pelt I am fierce. My muscles propel me forward with speedy grace and enable me to catch whatever might be my prey. I am fond of being a wolf. As I move I can scent everything and hear everything else. I watch the world flash past as I run, breathe in the world as I pant, feel the world beneath my paws. Brother wolf, thank you for giving your life to me, I will forever cherish the speed you gave me.

By the fall of the snow

The footsteps on the white
There's an unholy light

I first became a wolf, of all of my shapes, when I started with witchcraft. The ritual is something I spent a month memorizing, perfecting. Finally I was able to perform it. I still can see myself hunkered down in a bush, calling out to my chosen animal. My sister helped me with the choosing, directing me to search myself for the form I was going to take. I envisioned slim legs, coarse fur, and a haunting melody that flowed through my veins to spill into the air. A wolf, bold and beautiful.

I went out into the woods at night with only a knife and a lighter. If I was to assume my wolf form then I couldn't destroy the skin I would slip into. I also couldn't let another person take the life of my sacrifice, for then the ritual would fail. The moon and my lighter were the only sources of light but I didn't need to see far. Settling myself behind a bush I let out the song that had buzzed in the back of my mind since realizing my wolf side. Nothing happened, and I let out a breath before readying myself to howl again when there was a rustling a short ways away from me. My fingers tightened around my knife when I saw that it was indeed a wolf.
