She is but an empty castle, a wall portrayed to the remainder of the world, built brick by brick to combat the intense stares of her ever looming demons. She fights in the shadows of the night, coping with slender fingers so like mine, while I fight my own battles alone in a bathroom, tub half filled with water, sweat, tears, blood.

They only see the confident young man, never the half an inch away from drowning, weighted down by responsibility, and love I never grasped. Too long this state has contorted me, twisted my soul into something horrific, unrecognizable. Silence grips my throat as tightly as my fist seizes a bottle.

Twisted faces revolve around my skull at night while I think, and wonder- Her eyes, his hair, a reflection of a cracked mirror the only things I ever inherited from my parents, both lost to the ages.

They abandoned us both long ago, fading footsteps, pleas swallowed in the abyss of 'Don't leave, don't go, don't go, don't-'
