They call him Cottonhead because of his collection. To him there is nothing weird about collecting puffs of cotton and naming them. When he can, he draws faces on them. They are his friends because no one else wants to be. Paradoxically, it's nearly impossible to tell whether his lack of friends is what started this collecting habit, or whether the habit is what drove friends away. He's not crazy, though, he knows that the cotton puffs don't live. They don't talk, either, and so he doesn't talk to them. He just thinks about the conversations they could have.
He looks like a stalk of wheat. Helping his father with harvesting the cotton has caused him to spend many hours out in the sun. The combination of his honey blonde hair and tan make him look nearly entirely golden. Tall, and skinny from the quick growth spurt, he is lanky and awkward. Already he is six feet in height and is set to grow even taller. Gangling and cramped in many of the desks that he is set in during school, he always finds a walk enjoyable. Besides the physical discomfort, he always feels incredibly clumsy compared to so many of his classmates.
When scared, he reacts with a shout of "I'm here!" He has no idea why he does so, but he can't do anything to change it. As well, he has the toughest time meeting someone's gaze, even that of his parents. They have come to just accept that about him - his father is not a very confident man in himself and has little problem with his son being the same way. His mother always pushes him to try and put himself out there but he finds it too difficult. She works with the cotton they harvest to make clothing and comfort items like pillows. When he was five, she made him a stuffed cow which is his most prized possession.
