It's amazing, how just one person can bring you from the peaks of happiness, to the depths of despair. That one person I'm talking about is Dolly, of course. She's perfect, and sweet, and innocent. Maybe I'm not good enough for her, but I wish she would let me make her happy. Why can't she see that I'm the only person who truly cares about her? I know she doesn't like her family, and I'm concerned about that other guy she talks to sometimes, because he's a pervert and I bet he just wants to use her for sex.
I know, I know, she's nice to everyone, but you can tell that when she's smiling at me, she's doing it genuinely. I mean, sometimes she can get so stubborn, even when I'm just trying to act like a gentleman, but she wouldn't be choosing to spend so much time with me if she didn't love me too, and sometimes she really opens up to me as a true friend. Honestly, I don't trust people who think they can be friends to the entire district or something. It really cheapens the concept of friendship, makes it meaningless.
There's not a lot of people I care about, really. It's a cold equation - setting myself and Dolly at the value 1, all those random people I've met are of value 0. Maybe even negative, for the annoying ones like that pervert, I would definitely kill him if it wouldn't get me in trouble with the Peacekeepers. People I don't know are worth some small value, because who knows, they might be interesting people, even if the odds are against it. But in the end they're just "people" in the abstract sense anyways.
