Don't worry, I've picked up the slack. I slave over cloth until my back aches. I work double shifts and overnights because factories never stop, the needle and thread will never quit. I do it so we can afford to keep our water on. I do it to keep our pantry stocked. I know you like the cereals I buy.

You've been like this for a long time. I'm not sure how you survive it.

I raised myself. Turns out you don't need a dad to teach you how to survive in the real world. Turns out you can learn by trial and error without a mom and her lectures. I know school is required unless I flunk. I know I shouldn't flunk because school is school, but let's be realistic - I'm stranded here, mashed between a rock and a hard place. I'm not meant to move forward in life. I'll stay right where I am.

Turns out you can get pretty reckless though. Without parents, I can't really be stopped. I can go to any party I want, drink what I want, smoke what I want. The shit I've seen on drugs doesn't top anything anyone has ever seen. Some nights, I swear I thought I would die.

Luckily, it only takes one time to learn.

Turns out all we really need is friends. Noel makes me feel the way alcohol makes me feel; a natural high. That's something you cherish. Sometimes all we need is somebody to listen.
