You are a constellation, settled in up there by Orion's belt, and each star is a piece of you that makes up the whole,:a puzzle coming together and building Nicolai Bourne.

The first, a history. A pair of brothers who needed food, and parents willing to steal for it. You still see your mother's face when they took her away, especially when you stare at the sky for too long. You still feel your brother's hand being ripped from your own when we became me.

The second, a man who wore black. You never did learn his name; only his game, and the scent of peppermint aftershave that always accompanied him. "Following in Mum and Dad's footsteps more than you care to admit, aye?" He said after the contract was signed.

The third, a job. There are lots of names for what you do for a living— spy, sleuth, bounty hunter, private investigator, sneak, and you know it is because your new scene is always changing. Rules are only rules when certain people are looking. Jumping fences, forcing smiles, a khaki petticoat to keep you company when you leave your apartment. You just call yourself a hired hand to keep the questions at bay.

The last is where your heart would be: a future. You hold a cigarette between your teeth and smile.
