"String?" I question the trainer. Her glossy eyes fall over me as if I wasn't even there. My body didn't matter at all that I demanded the resolution to the task set upon me. "How do I make the string if I don't have anything? Nothing sturdy, at least." A geared smile fashioned upon her lips as she shook her head slightly, but she smiled as she took the pieces of seaweed, wrapping them together over each other multiple times. In a matter of minutes, the rip prone seaweeds made one good, strong line enough to use to makeshift a string. It's girth about the size of a hemp cord. I nodded in approval. This knowledge would come in handy most definitely.

The glossy-eyed woman walked away to check on another at her station leaving me to set forth to put together something both homemade yet dangerous. "What do you want?" I feel the presence of someone near, without giving them notice. I can almost feel the breath escaping their lungs. I can hear the stammering heartbeat almost. Instead of paying them any more mind, I busy myself with the broken twigs and the knife.

Slice by slice.

Shavings fall to the table after being eaten away by the blade of the knife. A very fine point remains within minutes and tested against my finger, pressing hard against the point. "I'm glad you didn't startle me while I was whittling. I'd hate to arrive in the arena only to be surprised with one less tribute." I jest in good fashion.

"Care to be my pin cushion?" I turn to meet the tribute, noticing in an instant his gaunt features and apparent lower district status.

Blond hair, blue eyes, beach-tanned body - yeah, that could only be the District Four guy who's pointin' the spear at me. Just when I thought I'd found a station I could actually learn somethin' quickly enough this week. I'm really not having the greatest day, am I?

I know a few people like this guy, though. Or, well, a few people that turn into this guy when they've got a couple packs of cards and a couple drinks at the bar. I try not to piss 'em off, but honestly, the worst thing you can do is act scared of their bluffin'. Gives you a reputation, makes the other dudes think they can all walk right over you.

Last thing I wanna do here is look like some frightened little kid here.

Even if the Careers are all bigger an' stronger and know their way around all sorts of weapons.

...he is bluffing, right? I like to think I know how to get a read on people, but this guy's from Four. People there are different than Eleven, aren't they?

"Smart move, trying to get rid of your opponents before the Games even begin."

Obviously I'm bein' sarcastic, people never actually do somethin' like that. For most of us it's 'cause we have some sort of decency, we don't just start killin' people left and right. But Careers, they've been trained to not care about stuff like that, right?

Maybe he'll tell me somethin' useful, always good to get more information on what I'll be facin'. If I were to make a guess, though, the real reason's because the Capitol hates it, and nobody wants to get on the Capitol's bad side.

I turn around without any intention to harm the person standing and watching me; judging. As my eyes befall upon the tribute from the lower district, I can only imagine he's come from somewhere impoverish with his thin muscle mass and gaunt appearance. A half grin appears when he doesn't flinch in the least, but that wasn't my intention anyways. I lower the freshly pointed makeshift spear and once again turn my knife to whittle away more of the shreds without paying attention.

He looks a little offset though as most would coming up to a career, but his voice doesn't seem to mark me as one who would take my jests seriously at least. "Eh, not really smart. That would just be bad sportsmanship if you think about it. I mean, it would make it easier on someone, but who knows what terrible thoughts lay inside that brain of yours. Never underestimate your oppononent, as Momma T would tell me over and over. You gotta respect your elders, especially if it's your mom." I express myself.

I lay the spear down and take the knife I had and grab some string that is laying off to the side. With a fast movement, I start carving a chuck of the wood away. "Oh, I know why. The capitol wouldn't be able to watch and to either swoon at the killer or cry at the killed. I mean, come on, you've seen the games. Those that are emotionally attached to their favorites will either cheer or cry. It's just the way things go. Personally, I'd rather not do anything until the real moment comes. Wouldn't you?"

I inspect the man standing in front of me and my eyes shift over him, studying. "What is it that you specialize in? And what district are you? I've not studied the tributes locations. I would guess... twelve? Then again, I think nine would also suit you, as well." I taunt him, gazing over the whittled wood and once I'm satisfied with the carved out hole in the edge, I place the knife in for sizing.

"Perfect." I mutter and as the hilt of the knife nestles into the carved product, I take the string and wrap around it several times over. A perfect makeshift weapon. "My advice to you - never sneak up on a career and always watch your back. Never know when you'll find a knife lunging your way."

It's sound advice for anyone but especially for the tributes about to go in the games. "Not a threat to you, but just sound advice as I assume you were looking for advice my lower district friend."
