Independence is a gift not easily granted inside the borders of Panem. Not just from the Capitol, as my district has quite better luxuries than others, but in community life, familial life as well. The atmosphere of my family has tended to break that curse for my parents’ generation and my own. A father who ran away from an angry pair of parents and a mother who was forced to be a lone wolf after the death of her older sister, her only guardian. Both of them believed that they could give me a life filled with solace and stability.

Well, if you try too hard with that, all you tend to find is distance and chaos.

My mother taught me discipline while my father taught me to be inquisitive, but instead of finding common ground in their life lessons, they clashed and argued over how my little sister and I were to be raised.

As many may say, children are the younger versions of their parents. When I ran away from home one night, I knew that it was true. A boy with forest green eyes and a freckled face, I didn’t know who I was if not my parents. Was I a trained career like my mother had helped me to become for years, or was I the explorer my father thought I was destined to be?

Maybe neither, maybe both.

A community that I believe to be the catalyst for my newfound view on the earth helped me find an answer. I protected what they offered to me with my life, and it was only a small sheet of folded paper from a book they all cherished.

Our society demands we conform into the role we’re meant to play, but the story of boundless existence only confirms that we can be independent.

Life is boundless, and I am Boundless.
