It's You and Me, Partner {Arianna; Day 1}

With Sam in her arms and the blanket with holes in her bag, Arianna no longer felt alone for the first time since her name was called in the town square of District 11. Everyone had been so helpful, but none of them could be by her side in the arena. None of them could quiet the fear pressing deep into her mind. As she kept walking along, exploring this vast arena, her chin would sometimes drop onto the wide straw hat Sam was wearing. Where should we go now, partner? Should we hide among the flowers?

It didn’t hit her so quickly, but as she crossed what must have been a border for the scenery has changed, each step felt heavier and heavier as if she had ran the whole perimeter of the arena. Why am I…so tired? Sam offered her no answers as she felt her stomach turn. Had there been food in her stomach, Arianna was certain it would have ended up on the ground or maybe that’s why I’m not feeling so good.

Sorry, Mr. Sam. Getting down to her knees shakily with her vision starting to blur, Arianna set her partner to the side as she dry heaved. With each pull of her stomach, a gagging sound filled the air, but nothing was coming out. Oh no oh no oh no. Her whole body trembled as she reached for some plants nearby they look safe, and she ate them, hoping that filling her stomach would do the trick.

It might have hurt less but the waves of nausea kept hitting her as she curled up into a ball and willed it all away. I think it’s time for me to sleep, Sam. Maybe it will go away when I wake up. Her fingers reached out for her soft companion as she adjusted his hat. Time to sleep… But as she closed her eyes, the shivers started to take control of her body. Instinctively, she pulled out the heavy fabric from her bag and draped it around her upper body. They did not still the shivers, but Arianna did feel comforted by the pseudo-hug.

It would be a long night but first, Arianna had to conquer the rest of the day, for the sun was still bright and night would not be coming for a while.
