Slowly, I pull my hand away from the ripped skin, put cover it up again as soon as I look. It's not that bad, but it still stings. I can see some gravel stuck in my skin, and short, angry red lines criss-crossing over my knee. I can here myself whimpering quietly, and I feel so stupid, but it's like I'm not there. It's like I'm someone else, watching this girl on the street, but feeling her pain at the same time.
"Little girl? Girl, are you alright? I look up in surprise, brushing away whatever tears are left with the back of my hand. When you're short, you're almost minuscule when you sit. And when you're sitting, and you see someone really tall standing over you, it's scary. I'm short, I'm not afraid to say, and the girl in front of me is really tall. Or at least, she's tall to me.
I catch my breath and try to back away, but the wall is pressing against my back, the bricks digging into my jacket. It takes me a minute to calm down, and that's when I begin to get suspicious. I look at the girl carefully, as if testing her. How do I know she's real? The rabbit left me, how do I know she won't leave me, too? Well, I have nothing to lose. I just won't follow her like I followed the rabbit.
I peel back my hand again to show her the cut for a second, then cover it up quickly. "I cut, I fell...um, I mean..." I trail off, licking my lips. I open my mouth to try again, then snap it shut. I'll just say something else stupid, and I got the general point across. Maybe she'll understand me.
