Keela Kara Lightwood
Sixteen
Female
District One
Appearance
With darker roots, Keela Lightwood’s blond hair seems more like gold than her mother’s sandy color. She’d never looked much like her mother, many telling her that she possessed her father’s waves. Her hair extends about five inches past her shoulders at most, never letting it any longer. This may give you the impression that she’s a bit of feminine type, but that would be incorrect. Keela is the type to leave her bangs hanging in her face, disliking the gender-role that dominates her family. Of course, her hair brushed but only out of sheer necessity to prevent the knots that would plague it otherwise.
Her eyebrows are at about medium thickness, matching her golden hair. The arch of her brown is slight, with the curve only appearing closer to the outer edge than the middle. There’s little to no shaping evident in her brows. There is light hair clearly visible at the inner ends of the two. This may be the beginning of a uni-brow, which I doubt she would like. Please don’t tell her. Her inner edge is very close to the eyelid, while there is a lot of space near the outer edge.
Keela’s eyes are an almond shape. The light brown color of her eyes reflect a lot of light, and this tends to make it easier to hold eye contact for her. Her eyes aren’t very deep, but they don’t bulge from her skull. Her eyelashes are short, thick, and very curly. Her eyes are proportionate to her face.
(Yes, her cheeks are round, go ahead and call her cute. Her cheeks aren’t chubby, but yes, they are round.)
The first thing one would notice about her nose is the light coating of freckles on it and her cheeks. Her bridge is wide, but not long enough to be considered proportional. The tip of her nose is round and slightly large for her face. Her small nostrils combined with everything else tend to give the girl a bit of a mousy look.
Her lips are very thick and shapely. Her Cupid’s bow is defined strongly, but her upper lip is only a bit thinner than her bottom lip. In all, her lips are a bit wide for her face, extending past her nostrils and near the center of her eyes. Her chin is round but wide, and about an inch below her bottom lip.
Her makeup consists of a light pink lip gloss or a simple matte red for more formal occasions. Her eye shadow consists of a light coating of greenish glitter because she loves that it helps her eyes look even brighter. No blush, she prefers to appear sexy, not feminine.
Standing at 5’ 7” and 116 lbs., Keela is at a healthy weight for her age and height. Her body is thin but healthy. Her skin is tanned with light freckles covering her arms and shoulders. Her breasts are larger than most girls in District One. Her legs are long, her waist narrow, Specialk would probably find her body sexy. Her stomach is lean, but not very toned. A long scar extends from the top of her calf to midway through from a minor accident as a child. She’s self-conscious about it but she wears shorts and skirts because she doesn’t want to upset Edana.
Her clothing is sexy but not overly feminine. Her wardrobe consists of dark purple tops to orange graphic tees to neon blue dresses, but nothing that implies she’s the stereotypical girly girl. She loves dark jeans and skirts because every fashionista knows black looks good with anything. Keela also loves jewelry. Mainly gold rings and earrings, but she will wear diamonds if she’s dressing a bit brighter. She adorns her nails with glitter, often asking for her 12 year old brother’s help because of his natural eye for art.
Personality
Keela loves music more than anything. You could say she was a prodigy, because she is. She plays the piano passionately, just recently learning Sonata No. 1 by Carl Vine. Walk into the Lightwood house any morning, you’ll find Keela at the grand piano playing among the greats. As a virtuoso pianist, she has a remarkable ear for her on mistakes, striving to perfect her craft however she can. It may seem that this would bother the other Lightwood children, trust me, it does.
Keela has Selective mutism and severe social anxiety. She won’t speak if around anyone but her siblings (not her mother or her boyfriends) or people she trusts. This is because of trauma associated with an event from her past.
She is otherwise a girl who loves to have fun, party, and act like a normal teenager. She’s kind and always tries to make sure her friends and family are happy and safe. She’ll do anything to protect the people she loves, even forgetting her morals to ensure their safety.
She’s a genius and she applies herself to her music, and this translates to her school work. Her grades are all A’s, placing her to the top of her class. She’s not close to anyone except one or two friends, but she’s invited to parties anyway because of her siblings.
In the end, she hates when people complain about petty things. She doesn’t care if you got a B on your test. Some people have real problems. It bothers her to the point where she has to physically sit on her hands out of fear she’ll tear out their throat. Yes, she has anger issues, but her family life is messed up.
Rarely, very rarely, will Keela cry. Keela will only cry with her siblings. She’s a highly empathetic person, and she feels their pain tenfold. She never cries for herself, because for her, her family is her rock. If she’s sad, she can play and everything will be better, but she worries for her siblings. Her obsession with her family may be unhealthy and a result of her longing for the motherly role she was never given.
Childishness is also a trait for Keela. She still plays with dolls, even pretending they’re her children. She plays as a child to try and maintain a sense of youth so maybe there may still be room for her mother to raise. Deep inside of her, she knows this will never be true, but she refuses to believe it. She loves her mother, but refuses to trust her because of the years the Lightwood siblings have been forced to raise themselves.
History
Sixteen years ago, a baby girl named Keela was born to the exceedingly wealthy Willow and Casper Lightwood of District One. It was the fifth child for the two, following a set of triplets and a baby girl. The couple were in their early 20’s, while their family started in their teens. At the time of Keela’s birth, here was there small family: Riley, Avon, and Antoinette aged two, directly followed by Edana aged one. The set of triplets were premature, but overall, healthy. Edana was 2 months premature, and as a result, suffered from asthma and allergies on top of her pre-existing birth defect that forced the amputation of her left leg at the knee.
Keela can barely remember her dad. He died four years after her birth, right after the birth of his son, Aris. From what her brother Riley told her, he was a great guy who loved his children more than the world. She was told that he died from a freak accident at the factory where he worked that was near the district fence. “He was stung so many times by Tracker Jackers,” she was told. She would later learn the truth from the only man she could recall calling daddy.
Skip forward a few years. Willow is now married again. Here’s the catch, she’s married Casper’s brother. Say hello to Mr. And Mrs. Xavier Lightwood. Willow thinks everything is fine and dandy but we all know how that goes. It’s not. Xavier is hitting Riley for saying he could never be his father. It spreads to Edana because of the thought that she was weak. Then, the child, Aris. One day, Keela walked in on Xavier pushing the then four year old Aris into the radiator. This triggered the rage to spread onto Keela as well.
By now, Keela is realizing her natural talent with piano. Willow encourages her, and is even giving her the attention that she’d been neglecting her children while she struggled to get over her first husband. Xavier was the jealous type. One day, he called Keela into the room with a jar full of Tracker Jackers. He told the girl about how he had always loved her mother, and how one day, he killed his father the same way as he would kill the girl if she didn’t smash her piano. He made her smash the grand piano in the house, with Keela watching him. He decided to blame it on his nonexistent clumsiness. Willow was the naive type, fully believing it. This fuels a hatred for her stepfather that she knew she had to bottle up for her family’s sake.
Skip to age twelve. One night, fourteen year old Edana walks in with obvious bruising on her arms. Keela had always been very close to Edana, loving her not just as a sister, but as a best friend. Keela knew Xavier had been hitting her again, but she wasn’t ready for what Edana was about to tell her. Edana had been raped, and it wasn’t the first time. Keela, being the protective and gutsy kid that she is, she started putting her brain to work. It was clear to her what she had to do. After all, Xavier worked at the same factory he killed his brother at. She knew where to get Tracker Jackers and knew exactly how to cover up his murder. Being twelve, she’d need some serious help.
She enlisted the help of Riley and Avon, her two siblings who shared her passionate hatred of Xavier. They were also the strongest among her family and if she stood a chance at pulling this off, she needed their help. Keela organized the whole thing from getting the Tracker Jackers to making sure no one would suspect anything other than an accident. Xavier revealed his techniques which ultimately lead to his own demise.
So, in the end, Xavier did die. Live went on as normal, apart from Keela’s selective mutism caused by the trauma of the years of abuse and the murder she planned and committed. But, Xavier’s seed lived on in a little boy born several years before on the day of Xavier’s death, Chyba. Keela resented Chyba, sure that the baby boy would become a monster like his father. She didn’t want to love him. She couldn’t hate him, either. Love is uncontrollable, Keela assured himself. Her mom didn’t mean to love a monster.
After her second husband’s death, Willow is now a shell of her former self. She’s not even raising her kids, and neither are the nannies. The children are getting by, and they aren’t even children anymore. Like it or not, they had to grow up. Four years after the murder, Keela is struggling to get by in a world she can’t trust. Her mother, however, is attempting to cope the best way she'd ever learned: by dating. Now, as a result, Willow is pregnant with her eighth child.
