They always say I look like my father. I guess they are right, at least a little. I have his eyes- the same hazy shade of sea-green. Like him, my hair is dark, and even though you wouldn't be able to tell from looking at him, his hair stands up in the same places as mine in the morning. I have my mother's complexion, though, lighter even in the summer, as well as her mouth. Everyone says that all of the Dials family had those lips. I never really saw much of my mother's side of the family, so I couldn't really say for sure, but what I can say is that I'm nothing special to look at. Dad says I will be some day. Tall like him, broad shoulders and a handsome smile. I hope he's right.

A lot of people say they only see me smile when I'm around girls. Mom says I'll end up being one of those boys parents don't want their daughter to have anything to do with if I'm not careful, but I'm not sure I believe her. (After all, I haven't even had my first real kiss.) I have devoted my entire life to making my Dad notice me. Really, he is my best friend, and I love nothing more than seeing him smile and telling me he is proud of me. As a career, I guess I am supposed to end up like those people Matilda spends her time with, hungry for blood and wanting nothing more than to end up in the games, but I am scared of them. Maybe I am just too young, and maybe I'll end up becoming like them just yet, who knows? For once, I don't. I actually pride myself on my wisdom. Using common sense can actually go a long way, believe it or not. (Did I mention I am really, really sarcastic?)

I was born into what people call an "advantaged" family. Wealthy enough to afford more than enough food, and, as it happens, my father is the mayor of District Four. I always thought it was cool that he led the entire district, always speaking in front of crowds filled with people from all sides of it. I knew from a very young age I wanted to be like him some day. (I have been president of my class for four years now.) However, more than a few times, I felt like I wasn't enough. My parents were always so busy with their lives and, even when they did get time, my older siblings seemed to get the majority of the attention. But in the end I know I am my Dad's favorite. He talks to me like I am his friend, and I listen.
