What the Water Gave Me {Avon Day 1}

She's struggling across the sand, trying to find purchase, to sink herself into the earth because the sand makes her feel like she could float away with it. It's dizzying. It's either the sand or the intense pain in her leg. She thought she could ignore it, she really did, but it's feeling impossible. It feels hopeless, all this sand. Like she's lost and trying to be found in this thing that resembles a red beach. But where is the ocean? There's no sound of waves. She wants to see those, she's read about them, never seen them. If she dies here, she will never ever see the ocean. How despairingly sad that because she was born in District One, the best one to be born in, she never got to see it.

Panting, she made her way over a ridge, and took a moment to glance up. It was a good choice it seemed. Something was floating down with the sand. If it was floating near her, then it had to be for her right? Limping forward, her hand presumably attached to Seepie's leg now because of the dried clumps of blood, only loosened every now and then by the liquids that were still oozing slowly out. Waving the leg in the air almost as she ran, she slipped and slid down the dune, arriving just in time to catch the package delicately in her outstretched hand. There was a red cross on the front. A smile came to her lips, probably odd looking, what with all the blood. Fuck the Peackeepers, she was one happy demon girl.

It was a medical kit. A lot more bandages, and a needle and thread. Hastily grabbing at the needle and thread, Avon sat and sewed up some small wounds on her body. She had no visible cuts, just the broken shin. The skin had split a bit with the breaking and travelling of it, so she sewed it up nice and tight. It instantly brought some relief, as if she had been breathing only through her nose for the past few hours or so. She tested the weight of it a bit, and maybe it wasn't really broken. Maybe it had just been terribly bruised. There was still some pain, but it was not as harsh as before. Maybe things might actually go okay. If she had been feeling sorry for herself before, she was feeling more like her old self now.

Putting the tools carefully back into the package, and folding up the mini parachute, she put them into her backpack. One never knew when an itty bitty parachute might be useful. She could use the fabric for a bandage or hat or something. Smiling brightly, she bowed slightly, and said, "Thank-you," to the wind and whoever might be listening. Life was getting so much better, if only for the moment. She still held Seepie's leg. She might as well keep it, it could be used for more than just something to keep her held up. She didn't really want to think about what she might be willing to do with it, but as of yet, she hadn't really seen any small game about. The only thing going for her, was that she knew plants, really well.

She said another silent thank-you to the Lightwood family gardens, which had been planted by her mother, when her mother had cared. Everything a person could think of, fruits, vegetables, and flowers. Avon's favourite had always been the roses of course, but that didn't mean she hadn't spent countless hours pouring over dusty old books, learning everything she could about plants. Lifting her pack again, she moved easily down to the new tower in front of her. It was hopefully the swamp, where she could get water, boil it in her jug, and then ration the hell out of. Moments spent in the library with her father telling her how to survive in the wild. Maybe he had been preparing her for this, because maybe he had known all along that she would end up in the games.

She wondered if he would be proud of her, daddy dearest. If he would still love her after all she has done. Because she is definitely no little girl anymore. Would he even recognize her without her long locks? What would it be like to have one's own father be disgusted with you? Better yet, What was it like to have a father? Shaking her head, she entered the tower, and immediately stepped back. There was water everywhere, and there was probably nothing good in those waters. Keeping to the edge of the tower, she dipped her jug in, filling it to the brim with slimy looking liquid. Oh dear, one would have to be mad to drink this without boiling it. She firmly capped it, and then took a moment to assess what to do.

Until now, she had a basic goal, and that had kept her going and not thinking as in depth as she had to because of the pain that was already ebbing away. She sat at the fringes of the swamp. There was a rock that she was able to safely perch on. Fish swam around in the water, but slowly and lazily. They weren't very hurried these ones. She had never really seen a fish before though, this was all assumptions. They were sort of pretty. Nothing like roses, but kind of cute. She wondered though, if they would be as cute if she stepped into the water actually. She wasn't going to chance it. Glancing back outside, she sat near enough to the door that she could, she decided to wait for a bit. She needed rest, and here seemed safe enough. Everywhere was dangerous in the arena.

ooc: Avon used the thread and needle twice, resulting in -10 damage. So she is at 8 damage now. Avon got water, and a med kit.
