10's Northern Community Home [Now Open!]

The Northern Community Home
A lonely home for lonely boys and girls, this is the northern most orphanage of District Ten. The outlying ranching grassland lies along the border, with the gardens and timid fields clustered around the barn, pig pens, and house. The community home primarily makes its living from slaughtering pigs and the cattle the older brothers and sisters ranch. Ma is the only adult, corralling the little ones, and everyone is expected to help out.
Their luck has changed in the last few years, from glory to ruin. While they can now afford butter and other luxuries thanks to the stipend Mace sends each month, they have lost their school teacher, Elon, to the Games.
The hardier boys and girls are plucked off as they reach adolescence, to be "adopted" by other farms and ranches and that need their labor. Ma has set up a modest fund for any girl or boy that languishes in the home past the age of twenty-two. It's enough to rent them a room in a house for several months, but no more than that.
The walk to the main part of the district is long, five hours at a brisk pace, but most don't have a reason to leave. Because no one else wants them.
