When the name Le Roux didn't echo through One's square and no foolish cousins lunged forward to volunteer, Ridley should have felt nothing but relief. Instead, as she watched the two teenagers who did volunteer, a distinct throbbing began to set in just behind her temples.
By the time they boarded the train it was a full-blown headache, but Ridley elected to ignore it as she waited for her tea to steep and watched the world blur by through the window. Without another family member in the Arena she could finally put this visit to the Capitol to good use, tugging at a dozen hidden strings she'd found in the glittering city and watching as it began to crumble. In her mind she went over her lists - names of people who owed her, times during the Games when she wouldn't be expected to be anywhere in particular, places where a corpse wouldn't be noticed for a good long time - and tried not to think about the two ghosts that were somewhere else on the train, no doubt dreaming of crowns and a gory glory.
Once her tea was ready Ridley grabbed the mug and rose, pressing two fingers against a twitch above her left eyebrow as she made her way through the doorway of her current car.
And immediately collided with Bastion Fray.
Ridley let out a hiss of surprise, scalding tea sloshing out of the mug and over her golden hand. By the time she'd righted herself she was scowling, the door shutting behind her with an automated swish.
"Bastion," she gritted out once she'd composed herself, transferring the mug to her opposite hand and trying to shake the droplets off the gleaming metal of her palm. Raising her gaze to meet his, she tilted her head. "Trying to get into another fight? Because if I were you, I'd learn to dodge a punch, first."
