Tri-District Tournament Day One: Bridgerton vs. Le Roux

Ridley. Ridley. Ridley.

That is all anyone ever talked about and it was infuriating. There are plenty of much better and much more talented Le Roux's, like me. Always overlooked even though I am easily one of the best, if not number one. I've worked hard for years to be great, to one day hold my head high with a crown atop it, but then she came in and stole it right from under me. The glory, the fame.

And I would do anything to get it back.

That's why I stand here, a belt of knives strapped around my waist, one gripped tightly in my hands. I'd always been smaller, and my greatest strength wasn't brute force, but my agile limbs as I danced my way around enemies and murdered them from afar. Elegant, graceful, but oh so deadly. I begins to slowly circle the boy across from me, like a lion circling her pray.

"Well Bridgerton, I hope you're prepared to lose,"

My hand twitches, and my knife flies.

A slight growl threatened to leave my lips as the knife flew by the other boy, not even scraping his skin. Father would be disappointed.

But not nearly as disappointed as I was in myself.

A warmup throw, yes that's what it was. It was a new environment, a new place with different lighting, and maybe the biggest crowd I had ever performed in front of. They wanted a star.

Little did they know, one was standing right it front of them.

His sword came crashing down so quickly it was barely a glint of silver. Quickly, I dived out of the way, barely missing my torso. A smile played on my lips as I stood up straight and brushed off my shirt.

"Oh, so you like to dance?"

I took a knife from my belt and twirled it between my fingers.

"Well, it does take two to tango,"

Hopefully my warmup was over.

Beauty. Grace.

But most importantly, deadly.

Born a killer, but trained to be an expert. There wasn't a day in my life where I got tired of being the best. However, the title of best Le Roux, had been snatched unfairly from me when that brat somehow managed to come out alive. That was never supposed to happen. I knew it, she knew it, everyone in our family knew it too.

She got lucky.

So here I am, spending my time in trivial tournaments just to prove how clearly her crown belongs to me. I've been waiting for the perfect moment to snatch it from her head, but her claws had been gripped tightly around it since the moment she came home.

"Awh, did Mummy never give you proper dancing lessons? So sad,"

Too busy laughing at my own joke to see the blade swinging towards. I quickly ducked to the side, but a second too slow. A grunt escaped my lips as it skimmed my thigh. I glared up in anger.

"Apparently, Mummy never taught you proper manners either,"

It's just flash of silver as the knife flies straight towards Benito Bridgerton.

A scream of frustration threatened to escape my lungs, but Father always said to keep your composure. So instead I choked it down and plastered my face with a sickening smile as another one of my knives flew by, not even touching his skin. Someone had to be fixing it, I simply do not miss. There had to be a committee to complain to, right?

Because this was unacceptable.

I pushed a loose strand of hair out of my eyes and wiped a drop of sweat off my brows.

"Isn't that what we're trained to do, kill? No fun when you let your enemy live. Don't worry, they'll stop us before I actually kill you,"

A smirk, and then a knife flying through the air.
